Former DFDS CEO Torben Carlsen has been appointed Chair of Ofiniti to steer the maritime technology company’s next phase of global growth and digital expansion. Spun out from DNV as FuelBoss, Ofiniti holds an estimated 40% share of Singapore’s digital bunkering market and serves over 200 customers worldwide. Carlsen’s leadership will bring crucial shipowner-side perspective to help the platform connect supply, demand, and infrastructure across an increasingly complex alternative fuel landscape.
Copenhagen and Oslo | August 21, 2026 – Maritime technology innovator Ofiniti has appointed former DFDS CEO Torben Carlsen as the new Chair of its Board of Directors. Bringing decades of executive shipping experience, Carlsen will guide Ofiniti’s strategic direction, accelerate international growth, and inject a vital customer-side perspective as the company expands its digital footprint across the global bunkering industry.
From DNV Spin-Out to Global Digital Bunkering Powerhouse
Originally conceived as FuelBoss within the Norwegian classification society DNV, Ofiniti was spun out as an independent entity in September 2024. Today, DNV Ventures remains the company’s largest shareholder, supported by a robust international investor base including Norway’s state-owned climate investment company Nysnø, UK-based Verb Ventures, and Singapore-based ShipsFocus Ventures.
Since gaining independence, Ofiniti has scaled rapidly through both organic expansion and strategic acquisitions, notably absorbing Angsana Technology in Singapore and Teqplay in the Netherlands.
Operating across major global hubs like Singapore, Oslo, Copenhagen, and Dubai, Ofiniti currently serves over 200 customers worldwide. Having processed more than 40,000 bunker operations to date, the platform holds an estimated 40% market share in Singapore’s digital bunkering sector, the world’s largest bunkering hub.
Unifying a Fragmented Ecosystem
Bunkering is inherently complex, requiring precise coordination among fuel suppliers, shipowners, bunker vessels, terminals, and port authorities regarding timing, location, capacity, and documentation. Historically, much of this communication has relied on disconnected legacy systems and manual workflows.
Ofiniti’s platform replaces these friction points by combining operational visibility, digital delivery, electronic Bunker Delivery Notes (eBDNs), and operational intelligence into a single shared ecosystem. This infrastructure bridges supply, demand, and port infrastructure, allowing stakeholders to adapt to shifting conditions in real-time.
Leadership Perspectives
Commenting on his appointment, Torben Carlsen, Chair of Ofiniti, emphasized the practical necessity of the company’s mission:
“After many years in the shipping industry, I know how critical fuel and bunker operations are to both economics and day-to-day operations. What I find particularly interesting about Ofiniti is that the company is addressing a very tangible challenge in shipping: How do we better connect the many players involved in a bunker operation? Ofiniti has already established a strong position, and I see significant potential in bringing supply, demand and infrastructure closer together.”
Ofiniti has traditionally built a commanding presence on the supplier side of the market. Bringing Carlsen onboard marks a deliberate pivot toward deepening engagement with marine fuel buyers and shipowners.
Tue Raguse, CEO of Ofiniti, highlighted the strategic value of this leadership transition “We have built our position very close to the operational side of bunkering. But our ambition is bigger than optimising one part of the value chain. We want to connect supply, demand and the infrastructure that enables the industry, and that requires us to understand the entire ecosystem – particularly the buyers of marine fuel.”
“With Torben, we gain a highly experienced international industry leader who has sat on the customer side and understands what matters to a major shipowner. He will be an important strategic sparring partner for me and the wider leadership team, while also being actively involved in the next phase of Ofiniti’s development and helping us accelerate both organic and inorganic growth.” Tue added.
Managing Complexity in an Evolving Fuel Landscape
As shipping navigates the energy transition, the operational friction within bunkering is intensifying. Managing alternative and lower-carbon fuels, such as LNG, green methanol, biofuels, and eventually ammonia, introduces rigorous safety, quality, and documentation requirements that far outstrip traditional marine gas oil or heavy fuel oil operations.
While Ofiniti’s platform is already widely utilized in complex, high-requirement sectors like LNG bunkering, it is architected to streamline workflows uniformly across all fuel types.
Summarizing the company’s core vision moving forward, CEO Tue Raguse concluded “The energy transition makes the need for better operational coordination even more evident, but this is not a challenge that begins with new fuels. Bunkering is already a complex operation. Our role is to create the digital and operational infrastructure that enables the industry to manage that complexity more effectively, regardless of which fuel is being delivered.”
