d’Amico International Shipping has exercised its purchase option to acquire the 50,000 dwt eco-MR product tanker MT High Discovery for approximately US$ 15.3 million, with full ownership expected by November 2026. The transaction follows a 2022 sale-and-leaseback agreement and reduces the company’s financial leverage while bringing its modern double-hulled fleet to 26 owned vessels out of 28 total.
Luxembourg | August 10, 2026 – d’Amico International Shipping S.A., a prominent international marine transportation company specializing in the product tanker market, has announced that its operating subsidiary, d’Amico Tankers d.a.c. (Ireland), has officially exercised its purchase option for the MT High Discovery.
The vessel, a 50,000 dwt medium-range (MR) product tanker built in February 2014 by South Korea’s Hyundai Mipo Dockyard Co., Ltd., is being acquired for a consideration of approximately US$ 15.3 million. Delivery and full ownership transfer to d’Amico Tankers are slated for the beginning of November 2026, with the final purchase price subject to slight adjustments based on the exact delivery date.
Strategic Fleet Consolidation and Financial Impact
Originally subjected to a sale-and-leaseback agreement in 2022, the reacquisition of the High Discovery marks a major strategic step for DIS as it consolidates ownership of its core operational assets. Following this transaction, the company will have successfully reacquired one of its two remaining bareboat chartered-in vessels.
- Lowering Financial Leverage: CEO Carlos di Mottola noted that the transaction directly contributes to reducing the company’s financial leverage and overall cash breakeven point.
- Modern Eco-Profile: Built by a top-tier shipyard, the vessel reinforces DIS’ commitment to operating a high-efficiency eco-fleet.
Current Fleet Status
Following this acquisition, DIS maintains a robust, double-hulled fleet tailored to the global refined products and chemical trades.
- Total Fleet Size: 28 double-hulled product tankers (comprising MR, Handysize, and LR1 segments).
- Ownership Structure: 26 owned vessels and 2 bareboat chartered-in vessels.
- Fleet Age: An average age of approximately 10 years, ensuring high market competitiveness and regulatory compliance.
Executive Perspective
“I am pleased to announce the exercise of the purchase option on one of our two remaining bareboat chartered-in vessels.
