Seaspan Energy has completed its 150th ship-to-ship LNG bunkering operation along the North American West Coast in just 18 months of operation. This rapid expansion has propelled the company to seventh globally by LNG bunkering volume, according to LANSDOWNE Moritz rankings.
North Vancouver, B.C. | July 29, 2026 – In a landmark achievement underscoring the rapid acceleration of alternative marine fuels in North America, Seaspan Energy has completed its 150th ship-to-ship (STS) LNG bunkering operation.
Achieved in just 18 months, less than two years after the company officially launched operations, the milestone coincides with a major global ranking update by LANSDOWNE Moritz, which positions Seaspan Energy seventh worldwide by LNG bunkering volume.
Rapid Scaling Across the Pacific Northwest and West Coast
Since executing its inaugural ship-to-ship LNG delivery at the Port of Long Beach in December 2024, Seaspan Energy has aggressively expanded its footprint. The company now has all three of its specialized LNG bunker vessels actively deployed along the North American West Coast, currently maintaining a steady clip of 12 bunkering operations per month.
Working closely with port authorities and maritime regulators to clear critical safety and operational hurdles, Seaspan Energy services a diverse global clientele, including cruise ships, container vessels, car carriers, and tankers. Its active service network spans strategic ports such as:
- Vancouver
- Nanaimo
- Royal Roads
- Long Beach
- Seattle
Notably, more than half of all operations have taken place within the Port of Vancouver, further reinforcing the Canadian gateway’s status as a premier international hub for LNG-powered shipping and lower-emission fuel adoption. Crucially, the company relies on locally produced, “made-in-BC” LNG sourced from FortisBC’s Tilbury LNG facility, ensuring a resilient, regional supply chain.

Executive Perspectives
Industry leaders highlighted the significance of the dual milestone for both regional development and the wider maritime energy transition:
Harly Penner, President, Seaspan Energy, commented “Completing 150 LNG bunkering operations in just 18 months is an incredible achievement for our team. This milestone reflects the hard work and commitment of our vessel crews and shoreside staff, who have built a reputation for delivering safe, reliable LNG bunkering.”
Gary Regan, Managing Consultant, LANSDOWNE Moritz, added “Seaspan Energy has become one of the world’s leading LNG bunker suppliers in a relatively short period of time. The company is now ranked seventh globally by LNG bunkering volume according to our data and is well positioned for future growth given its access to dedicated SSLNG loading facilities and competitive value proposition.”
Jeff Scott, Vice President, Operations and Supply Chain, Vancouver Fraser Port Authority, commented “The rapid growth of LNG bunkering at the Port of Vancouver reflects the shipping industry’s focus on decarbonization. As Canada’s largest port, we are working with industry partners to facilitate safe and efficient bunkering operations that support the transition to lower-emission marine fuels.”
Ian Finke, Director, LNG Commercial and Capital Development, FortisBC, stated “Reaching 150 LNG bunkering operations demonstrates how quickly LNG bunkering is becoming established on North America’s West Coast. FortisBC is proud to provide the locally produced LNG that supports Seaspan Energy’s operations and to work alongside industry partners to help build a more resilient and lower-emission marine fuel supply chain.”
A Benchmark in Safe and Reliable Operations
Behind this rapid growth is an uncompromising focus on safety and regulatory compliance. Conducting 150 successful bunkering operations requires seamless coordination with port authorities, coast guards, and terminal operators across international jurisdictions. By establishing rigorous safety protocols for handling cryogenic fuels in busy commercial hubs like Vancouver and Long Beach, Seaspan Energy has built a reputation for reliable, incident-free operations that sets a benchmark for the regional LNG supply chain.
