The Role: Senior Marine Fuels Desk Lead
Based in Athens, Greece, you will lead the bunker desk operations, holding direct responsibility for optimizing fuel procurement, executing long-term and spot contracts, and managing price risk across Singapore and other strategic global ports. Working closely with internal stakeholders across commercial, technical, and operations functions, you will ensure seamless fuel supply execution tailored to the needs of the Group’s extensive owned fleet.
Key Responsibilities
- Strategic Decisions: Implement optimum fuel contracting and timing (especially for Singapore), maintain strategic supplier relationships, and assist in optimizing dual-fuel (DF) purchasing strategies.
- Purchasing & Price Optimization: Manage volume and price exposure using deep knowledge of marine fuels fundamentals; negotiate and fixture long- and short-term bunker contracts; originate market insights, hedging opportunities, and price risk management strategies.
- Operations & Due Diligence: Perform robust counterparty due diligence regarding quality, service levels, and creditworthiness; safeguard strict technical fuel quality standards; oversee smooth scheduling and delivery operations.
- Desk Management & Compliance: Supervise operational processes and risks; approve bunker invoices; manage claims and problem-solving; assist in Master Mariners training; and lead the bunker desk team to peak performance.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner effectively with Commercial, Technical, Operations, and Group functions to ensure alignment with organizational KPIs.
Candidate Profile
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Economics, Maritime Studies, or a relevant field.
- Experience: A minimum of 15+ years of relevant working experience, with at least 5+ years in managerial roles.
- Market Expertise: Excellent, deep understanding of the marine fuels market and own fleet operational needs.
- Skills: Exceptional quantitative decision-making abilities, high-level negotiation and communication skills, and the resilience to perform calmly under pressure while keeping external and internal stakeholders aligned.
- Technical Proficiency: PC literate with advanced knowledge of the MS Office Suite.
- Languages: Excellent command of the English language.
