Following this success, the technology has now been rolled out across nine vessels in the Brittany Ferries fleet to support ongoing maritime decarbonization.

The impressive efficiency gains were achieved through the deployment of an advanced, digital twin-enabled routing solution known as AdrenaShip.
The collaborative initiative showcases how cutting-edge digital technologies can be harnessed to optimize vessel performance, reduce emissions, and accelerate the maritime industry’s broader decarbonization journey.
A Synergy of Expertise: Operations, Software, and Engineering
The AdrenaShip concept brings together three distinct pillars of maritime expertise:
- Brittany Ferries: Provided critical real-world operational insights and fleet experience.
- Adrena: Contributed industry-leading route optimization software and performance analysis tools.
- BV Solutions (M&O): Brought advanced vessel performance modeling and digital twin engineering capabilities.
The solution has been thoroughly validated through thousands of commercial voyages and nearly two years of intensive onboard monitoring aboard the Galicia, one of Brittany Ferries’ modern E-Flexer-class vessels. Following this successful validation, the technology has now been rolled out across nine vessels in the Brittany Ferries fleet.
Evolution of the AdrenaShip Project
The partnership has deep roots. Brittany Ferries and Adrena originally launched AdrenaShip in 2016 to enhance fuel efficiency and operational safety through route optimization, initially achieving steady fuel savings of approximately 4%.
Recognizing the potential for deeper optimization, Brittany Ferries expanded the collaboration in 2022 to include Bureau Veritas Solutions Marine & Offshore. By integrating vessel-specific digital twins into the platform, the partners significantly upgraded the predictive capabilities of AdrenaShip. The digital twins leverage combined operational data and engineering models to deliver highly accurate routing recommendations and precise machinery operation guidance, pushing fuel savings to the 6% threshold.
These results are particularly noteworthy given Brittany Ferries’ demanding operating profile. The company’s Ro-Pax vessels operate frequent short-sea crossings under strict schedule constraints across routes connecting France, the United Kingdom, Guernsey, Ireland, and Spain.
