The Role: Senior Bunker Trader
Based in the historic maritime hub of Istanbul, you will be responsible for the full lifecycle of marine fuel transactions. This senior-level position carries direct P&L responsibility and requires a strategic mindset to develop and manage a robust portfolio of shipowners, operators, and suppliers within the region’s unique trading dynamics.
Key Responsibilities
- Regional Growth: Develop and expand a portfolio of shipowners and trading counterparties, focusing on the Eastern Mediterranean and Black Sea routes.
- Trading Execution: Manage back-to-back physical bunker trades (HSFO, VLSFO, MGO), optimizing margins through expert negotiation of commercial terms.
- Relationship Management: Build and sustain long-term partnerships with regional suppliers and customers, providing professional advice on port availability and logistics.
- Risk Mitigation: Operate within disciplined credit limits and ensure total compliance with international sanctions, KYC requirements, and internal risk policies.
- Operational Excellence: Oversight of the transaction lifecycle, from enquiry and pricing to post-fixture follow-up and claims resolution.
- Cross-Border Collaboration: Share regional market intelligence with Oilmar’s international offices to support global strategic initiatives.
Candidate Profile
- Experience: A minimum of 6+ years of proven success in bunker trading or physical oil products.
- Market Network: An established industry professional with a strong network of regional suppliers and ship operators.
- Local Expertise: Deep knowledge of the Turkish marine fuel market and familiarity with local port regulations.
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Business, Maritime Studies, Economics, or a related field (preferred).
- Skills: Exceptional negotiation, analytical capability, and the resilience to perform under pressure in volatile markets.
- Languages: Fluency in English is essential; proficiency in Turkish is naturally expected for this regional hub.
