The Role: Junior Cargo Trader – Dubai, UAE
Peninsula is looking for a confident, persuasive individual with a high level of ownership and accountability to strengthen its supply and trading team in Dubai. The role is designed for someone with previous experience in physical trading, ideally within the residual and distillate fuels scope of products, who can think on their feet and swiftly communicate key insights to management.
Working at the heart of the regional hub, the new Junior Cargo Trader will manage key supplier relationships, coordinate closely with internal chartering, operations, and hedging desks, and utilize market intelligence to position Peninsula’s supply for maximum profitability and risk mitigation.
Key Responsibilities
- Procurement & Supply: Procure marine fuels and blending components to maintain a competitive supply into regional physical ports, maximizing the value of company assets and shorts.
- Relationship Management: Maintain, establish, and build long-term relationships with new and existing suppliers, including major oil companies, refiners, and global trading houses.
- Global Collaboration: Communicate openly with internal cargo traders to maximize global market and arbitrage opportunities, and participate in internal and external marketing activities.
- Cross-Functional Coordination: Collaborate with local Operations to manage supply and blending, Chartering to maximize shipping asset value, and the Regional Book Manager and Hedging Desk to mitigate pricing risk.
- Strategy & Market Analysis: Interpret market conditions, fundamentals, geopolitics, and data from MINT to shape procurement strategies, while proactively controlling risk with the Supplier Credit Team.
Candidate Profile
- Experience & Technical Knowledge: Previous experience in physical trading, ideally within residual and distillate fuels. Strong knowledge of residual and distillate fuel pools, feedstocks, blending parameters, testing procedures, and ISO 8210 specifications.
- Commercial & Communication Skills: High level of commercial acumen, analytical and strategic thinking, and the ability to swiftly express key information. Confident, persuasive, and an effective negotiator able to think on your feet.
- Interpersonal Style: High level of ownership, accountability, ambition, and self-motivation, with the ability to work collaboratively toward shared goals or independently with minimal supervision.
- Technical & Language Skills: High level of computer literacy, including MS Office proficiency and experience with CRM systems. Business-level English is essential; knowledge of additional languages is considered desirable.
