As the first of six vessels for the CNOOC Group, the ship features a fuel-efficient X-DF 2.1 iCER dual-fuel engine to transport global LNG supplies primarily to China. This deployment advances NYK’s medium-term management plan, “Sail Green, Drive Transformations 2026,” by expanding its sustainable energy and LNG carrier operations.

(HLT), a strategic joint venture featuring major global shipping leader NYK, has officially held a vibrant naming ceremony for its newest liquefied natural gas (LNG) carrier. Built at China’s premier Hudong-Zhonghua Shipbuilding yard, the state-of-the-art vessel has been christened “GREENERGY RIVER”, a portmanteau blending the concepts of “Green” and “Energy.”
The milestone event welcomed high-level industry stakeholders, including NYK Senior Managing Executive Officer Hironobu Watanabe. The vessel marks the first in a series of six new-generation LNG carriers destined for long-term deployment under a charter contract with China’s state-owned energy giant, CNOOC Group.

Set to commence operations immediately in August, the GREENERGY RIVER will be utilized to transport global LNG volumes procured by the CNOOC Group from various international suppliers, delivering primarily into China.

- First-of-a-Kind Milestone: It is the premier vessel in a six-ship series contracted for CNOOC SG and the first China-built LNG carrier involving NYK to operate under a long-term charter with a Chinese customer.
- Ship Management: Technical management of the vessel will be handled by OPearl LNG Ship Management Company Limited, a specialized joint management firm established collectively by NYK, CMES, and CETS.
