On May 29th, Fairfield Chemical Carriers, in collaboration with MOL Chemical Tankers, achieved a significant milestone in their mission to decarbonize the maritime industry. The Fairchem Pathfinder, the first of four 26,000 DWT dual-fuel LNG new builds, successfully completed its inaugural LNG bunkering operation in Singapore.

During the operation, the vessel received a total of 1,390 cubic meters of LNG from the LNG bunker vesselFuelLNG Bellina” through a ship-to-ship transfer. This achievement not only showcases a leap forward in sustainable shipping practices but also underscores the companies’ dedication to mitigating the adverse effects of greenhouse gases (GHGs) on the environment.

Earlier in the month, Fairfield Chemical Carriers proudly welcomed the Fairchem Pathfinder to its fleet. Delivered by Fukuoka Shipbuilding Co., Ltd. on May 3rd, 2024, this 26,222 DWT IMO 2/3 chemical tanker marks the beginning of an exciting chapter as the first of four LNG-Dual Fuel vessels to be delivered.

LNG Bunkering

LNG bunkering, a pivotal aspect of the maritime industry’s shift towards cleaner energy sources, involves the transfer of liquefied natural gas (LNG) from a supply vessel to a receiving vessel. This process typically occurs either via ship-to-ship transfer or through onshore facilities. LNG bunkering offers numerous environmental advantages over traditional marine fuels, primarily due to its significantly lower emissions of sulfur oxides (SOx), nitrogen oxides (NOx), and particulate matter. Moreover, LNG has the potential to reduce carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions when compared to conventional marine fuels. As the demand for cleaner marine fuels continues to rise amid tightening environmental regulations, LNG bunkering plays a crucial role in facilitating the transition towards a more sustainable and environmentally friendly shipping industry.

Fairfield Chemical Carriers, established in 1996 by partners with a shared vision for excellence in chemical tanker shipping, extends its gratitude to Shell and the dedicated ship and shore staff of both vessels for their roles in successfully completing this maiden LNG bunkering operation.

With offices spanning The Netherlands, South Africa, Singapore, Japan, and the USA, Fairfield Chemical Carriers is committed to providing superior chemical tanker service worldwide. Their focus on safety, efficiency, professionalism, and ethical responsibility reflects their aim to be leaders in the industry, trusted and appreciated by their customers.
