The Role: Bunker Purchaser
Based in Oslo, Norway, you will take direct responsibility for planning, purchasing, and monitoring bunker fuel across the global fleet. By balancing cost efficiency, strict ISO quality standards, and optimal fuel intake, you will ensure seamless vessel operations while actively contributing to the company’s ambitious decarbonization roadmap and future fuel strategy.
Key Responsibilities
- Fuel Procurement: Plan and execute bunker fuel purchases leveraging deep market intelligence and industry trends.
- Negotiation & Quality Control: Negotiate competitive bunker prices while strictly maintaining ISO quality standards.
- Network Optimization: Optimize bunker intake across the global trade network to maximize cost efficiency.
- Vessel Coordination: Coordinate fuel requirements smoothly with vessel Masters and Chief Engineers.
- Sustainability & Alternative Fuels: Support decarbonization initiatives, monitor developments in future fuels (particularly ammonia and other low-carbon options), and take an active part in sourcing alternative marine fuels.
- Process Improvement: Develop and improve operational guidelines, procurement processes, and regular market performance reporting.
Candidate Profile
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Maritime Studies or a related field (such as Chemical Engineering, Process Industry, or Oil & Gas).
- Experience: Previous experience in shipping or the bunker industry is preferred.
- Technical Knowledge: Familiarity with gas fuels and alternative marine fuels is considered a strong advantage.
- Skills: Strong analytical, negotiation, and problem-solving capabilities paired with a commercial mindset.
- Personal Attributes: A proactive team player with an eagerness to learn, a passion for sustainability, and a drive to support the decarbonization of maritime transport.
- Software Proficiency: Proficient in Microsoft Office applications.
