The Role: Oil Derivatives Trader – Houston, TX
The Houston office serves as a vital operational and trading anchor for Bunker One in North America. The new Oil Derivatives Trader will step into an experienced, established global trading desk alongside local physical trading and sales teams, servicing clients by trading oil products, biofuels, carbon, power, and natural gas.
Working closely with global derivatives trading teams based in Denmark and Singapore, the successful candidate will manage end-to-end derivative strategies, handle risk management during US hours, and provide crucial market intelligence.
Key Responsibilities
- Hedging & Optimization: Implement effective derivatives pricing and hedging strategies to optimize physical exposures and drive franchise growth.
- Trading Execution: Develop and execute profitable trading strategies, carefully managing position size and risk across both proprietary and client deal flows.
- Daily Desk Operations: Carry out daily tasks, including marking forward curves, providing market updates, and engaging directly with physical trading and sales colleagues.
- Market Intelligence: Share tactical approaches and market intelligence, contributing to the collective knowledge and strategic direction of the trading team.
- Risk Management: Assist in risk management of global trading books, including oil, gas, and biofuels, during US market hours.
Candidate Profile
- Background & Experience:
- 2 to 3 years of experience trading fuel or distillate derivatives with Profit & Loss (P&L) responsibility at a bank, financial institution, or physical trading house.
- Note: Less experienced candidates with strong insight, interest in oil derivatives trading, and exceptional learning capabilities are also welcome to apply.
- Skills & Mindset:
- A disciplined approach to managing risk, with a structured and proactive work ethic.
- Excellent understanding of trading systems, exchange rules, OTC markets, financial derivatives risks, regulations, and product-specific trading rules.
- Ability to work independently as part of a diverse sales and trading team.
- Work Authorization: Must be based in, or willing to relocate to, Houston, with valid US work permissions.
