The Role: Junior Physical Desk Trader – Gibraltar, Gibraltar
Peninsula is looking for a high-energy, enthusiastic individual with an analytical mindset to strengthen its supply and trading team in Gibraltar. The role is designed for someone who can operate efficiently, effectively, and professionally within a fast-paced, dynamic, and results-driven business environment.
Working at the heart of the regional hub, the new Junior Physical Desk Trader will engage in the purchase and sale of marine fuel and associated products, foster profitable counterparties, and collaborate closely with cargo, hedging, technical, and operations teams to ensure smooth and risk-aware supply execution.
Key Responsibilities
- Procurement & Sales: Engage in the purchase and sale of marine fuel and associated products to foster profitable and longstanding relationships with a portfolio of counterparties, while maintaining a risk-aware perspective regarding credit risk and payment performance.
- Team Contribution & P&L: Contribute to physical supply teams responsible for delivering P&L in supply-markets of influence, ensuring close cooperation with Cargo, Hedging, Technical, and Ops Teams for smooth operations.
- Market Analysis & Observation: Observe how senior traders analyze Platts settlement, market structure, and backwardation/contango trends, asking questions to deepen understanding.
- Fixture & Reporting Accuracy: Support in reviewing that all fixture details are aligned with hedging reports, learning the importance of accuracy and timing in reporting.
- Port & Biofuel Operations: Monitor ongoing and upcoming port operations under guidance to gain insight into supply planning dynamics, and collaborate with the BIO department to observe biofuel deliveries, offers, and trends.
Candidate Profile
- Experience & Technical Knowledge: Solid numerical skills and an analytical mindset with a high level of attention to detail; able to analyze and interpret complex information, process data, and provide credible recommendations. High level of computer literacy, including proficiency in the MS Office package and experience with CRM systems.
- Commercial & Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, able to collate and present information in a concise, logical manner with authority to various audiences. Hard-working, goal-oriented, with a high level of energy and enthusiasm.
