In a significant milestone for both companies, TGE Marine Gas Engineering has announced its collaboration with Turkish shipbuilder RMK Marine on a new 7,800 m³ LNG bunker vessel—a landmark project that marks the first vessel of its kind for TGE Marine to be built in Türkiye.
This innovative project, ongoing since the summer of 2024, represents a new chapter in LNG bunkering and maritime sustainability. TGE Marine, a leading specialist in liquefied gas systems, is supplying the cargo handling and fuel gas systems for the vessel, including their proprietary Type C bi-lobe tanks designed to safely manage LNG under high pressure and cryogenic conditions.
TGE Marine’s Technical Sales Director, Johannes Dziuba, who has led the project, expressed enthusiasm about the development:
“I am very happy that our close cooperation with RMK Marine has yielded us this project. We have previous experience working together with Sirius Shipping AB and we know that it will be a great vessel. Even more special for us, this is the first vessel we see being built in Türkiye.”
The vessel—an LNG bunker vessel—will serve a variety of LNG-fueled vessels and has been designed to support a wide range of operations including efficient bunkering, gas freeing, and conditioning procedures. According to Dziuba, the use of Type C tanks allows for enhanced operational safety and flexibility, meeting stringent safety and environmental requirements in today’s LNG shipping market.
The newbuild is being developed for Sirius Shipping AB, in collaboration with Gasum, and continues the legacy of the earlier ‘Coralius’ LNG bunker vessel, which marked a successful collaboration between Sirius and TGE Marine dating back to 2017.
Jonas Backman, CEO of Sirius Shipping, reflected on the partnership:
“We are happy that we can work with TGE Marine again. We have a successful previous collaboration since 2017 with TGE Marine from our ‘Coralius’ vessel. Our vision is to be the Long Term First Choice for our clients, suppliers and colleagues, and to be able to use TGE Marine’s equipment once again is proof that we are moving towards our vision.”
Also commenting on the project was Jakob Nielsen, Sales Director at TGE Marine, who underscored the importance of the vessel not only for the company but for the LNG maritime industry in Europe:
“After a close to 10 years relationship with Sirius, it is great to now be involved in the vessel being built at RMK Marine and thus build further strong relationships between RMK Marine, Sirius, Gasum and TGE Marine. We are very excited and proud to be selected for Sirius’ and Gasum’s new vessel. It is a great achievement for TGE Marine, and we believe this will be the start of a very good relationship and developing a strong position for building LNG bunker vessels in Europe.”
Nielsen also highlighted the strategic significance of this vessel in enhancing the infrastructure needed to support the rapidly growing LNG-fueled shipping fleet in the Baltic and Kattegat Seas.
From the shipbuilder’s perspective, RMK Marine’s CEO, Dr. Utku Alanç, shared his vision for the project, emphasizing RMK’s commitment to innovation and sustainability:
“The ‘Celsius’ project is a reflection of RMK Marine’s vision to provide innovative and environmentally friendly solutions for sustainability.”
