Skarv Shipping Solutions has officially taken delivery of the Peak Skarv 1, the lead vessel in a pioneering series of four low-carbon multipurpose ships built at Huanghai Shipbuilding. This 7,800 DWT newbuild, currently preparing for its maiden voyage to Europe, features a future-ready design optimized for ammonia and methanol transition alongside integrated battery-hybrid systems. The delivery marks a significant expansion for the Norwegian joint venture, which also recently confirmed an additional order for a dedicated dual-fuel ammonia vessel slated for 2027.
Bergen, Norway | March 23, 2026 – Skarv Shipping Solutions has officially marked a transformative milestone in its fleet development with the delivery of its first vessel, the Peak Skarv 1. The handover took place today at the Huanghai Shipbuilding Co., Ltd. in Weihai, China, signaling the start of a new era for the joint venture between Peak CSL Group AS and Grieg Edge. with vital contributions from SSY Global (former Grieg Shipbrokers).
The vessel’s registry was completed under the Norwegian International Ship Register (NIS) flag, with Captain Oleksiy Bondarenko and his crew presiding over the flag-raising ceremony at the stern.
Bridging the Gap to Net-Zero
The Peak Skarv 1 is the first of a four-vessel series specifically engineered to disrupt the North European shortsea market. While the maritime industry grapples with the long-term transition to zero-carbon fuels, Skarv Shipping is positioning this newbuild class as a “giant step” toward that goal.
“These ships are far more climate-friendly than what we see in the short-sea market in Europe today, with a very low fuel consumption. They are not what we imagine is the final climate solution for shipping, but they are a giant step in the right direction,” said Jan Øivind Svardal, CEO of Skarv Shipping Solutions.
Technical Specifications & Future-Proof Engineering
Designed by LMG Marin, the vessel incorporates a suite of “future-ready” technologies intended to prevent technical obsolescence as global emissions regulations tighten. The ship’s propulsion and power management systems are particularly noteworthy for bunker industry stakeholders and energy analysts:
- Alternative Fuel Readiness: The engine is optimized and prepared for a seamless transition to ammonia or methanol.
- Hybrid Power: Integrated battery systems, a high-voltage switchboard, and shore-power readiness.
- Efficiency Tech: A dynamic propeller drive system for peak shaving to minimize fuel spikes.
- Advanced Data Integration: The fleet is set to implement automated sensor data platforms to support data-driven operations and long-term scalability.
| Feature | Specification |
| Deadweight (DWT) | 7,800 – 7,900 tonnes |
| Cargo Capacity | 6,650 tonnes |
| Cargo Deck Area | 1,600 m² |
| Length Overall (LOA) | 108.2 meters |
| Beam | 18.1 meters (Extreme 19.6 m) |

Expanding the Horizon: Ammonia on the Way
While the first four vessels focus on high-efficiency “multifuel” readiness, Skarv Shipping has already looked further ahead. The company has a fifth vessel on order, a dedicated Dual Fuel Ammonia vessel, scheduled for delivery in 2027, Represents the company’s commitment to achieving near-zero emission logistics from day one of operation.
Strategic Partnerships and Deployment
The realization of the Peak Skarv 1 is the result of deep collaboration across the Norwegian maritime cluster. While the four initial vessels will be commercially operated by Peak CSL Group AS, world-class ship management services will be provided by Grieg Star on behalf of Skarv Shipping.
With delivery protocols finalized, the vessel is scheduled to pick up its first cargo before commencing its transit to Europe. Skarv Shipping expects the vessel to be operational in North European waters before the summer season begins.
“We wish the crew of PEAK SKARV 1 all the best and safe sailing on the Maiden Voyage,” Svardal added. “We owe big thanks to our team and partners for their hard work and collective efforts in reaching this major milestone.”
