Seatrium Limited has achieved a significant milestone by securing the world’s first full-scale, turnkey Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) retrofit project from Solvang ASA, Norway. This pioneering initiative underscores Seatrium’s commitment to advancing environmental sustainability in the maritime industry.
The comprehensive retrofit will involve installing a 7MW Wärtsilä Carbon Capture & Storage (CCS) system on Solvang’s 21,289 cubic meter ethylene carrier, Clipper Eris. Scheduled to commence in the third quarter of this year, the project will utilize amine cleaning technology to capture 70% of carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions from the vessel’s main engine exhaust gas. Seatrium’s scope of work includes basic design, detailed engineering, procurement, electrical and automation system upgrades, and integration of the carbon capture and compression/storage system.
Mr. Tor Ask, Fleet Director of Solvang ASA, expressed satisfaction with the partnership, highlighting Seatrium’s proven track record in decarbonization retrofit works. He emphasized Solvang’s commitment to delivering energy-efficient solutions and green energy services for a lower carbon future. The CCS technology will undergo a year-long pilot onboard Clipper Eris, with plans for potential installation on other vessels, including newbuilds, if successful.
Mr. Alvin Gan, Executive Vice President of Seatrium Repairs and Upgrades, expressed gratitude for Solvang’s trust in Seatrium and the opportunity to collaborate on this groundbreaking project.
