PIL, a leading global shipping line, has taken significant steps towards enhancing efficiency and digitalization in the bunkering industry. In collaboration with Singapore Trade Data Exchange (SGTraDex), PIL recently signed Memorandums of Understanding (MOUs) with prominent bunker suppliers TFG Marine, KPI OceanConnect, and bp.
These partnerships aim to explore opportunities for digitalizing the bunkering supply chain, advancing the adoption of electronic Bunker Delivery Notes (eBDNs), and strengthening the overall bunkering ecosystem.
The MOUs were formalized during TechWaves, a maritime conference hosted by SGTraDex, and were witnessed by distinguished guests including Deputy Prime Minister of Singapore Mr. Heng Swee Keat, Chief Executive of Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) Mr. Eng Dih Teo, and Chairman of SGTraDex Services Mr. Chin Hwee TAN.
This initiative follows PIL’s announcement in January 2024 of becoming the first shipping line to achieve full integration with the SGTraDex platform. PIL anticipates that this integration could lead to a remarkable 30% reduction in overall transaction time once other suppliers adopt SGTraDex, significantly enhancing efficiency across the bunkering value chain.
Yujin Chia, PIL’s Head of Sustainability, Decarbonization, and Marine Fuels, emphasized the potential of SGTraDex to improve efficiency and reliability in marine fuel transactions. Chia highlighted PIL’s commitment to leveraging digital solutions to streamline processes and enhance collaboration within the bunkering ecosystem. The adoption of SGTraDex is expected to simplify transactional processes for stakeholders involved in marine fuel procurement, fostering a more efficient maritime industry.
PIL’s dedication to pushing boundaries and embracing future-focused strategies underscores its commitment to driving connectivity and delivering innovative solutions to meet the evolving needs of the global shipping sector. Through strategic partnerships and technological advancements, PIL continues to lead the way in revolutionizing bunkering operations for a more sustainable and efficient maritime ecosystem.
