Global oil and shipping group Monjasa has announced the expansion of its presence in Asia with the opening of a new office in Tokyo, Japan. The move reflects Monjasa’s growing engagement with Japanese customers and aligns with Japan’s significant influence in the global shipping industry.
Strengthening Monjasa’s Presence in Asia
Since 2008, Monjasa has maintained a strong foothold in the Asian bunker market with offices in Singapore, Ho Chi Minh City, and Shanghai. The establishment of its 16th international office in Tokyo marks a strategic step in deepening its relationships with Japanese shipping companies and expanding its service capabilities.
Japan remains one of the world’s top shipowning nations, boasting the highest-valued fleet globally, particularly in the LNG and LPG carrier segments. Monjasa aims to provide tailored fuel solutions to support the country’s evolving shipping landscape.
Managing Director Asia, Morten Østergaard Jacobsen, emphasized the significance of the new Tokyo presence:
“We are very ambitious about our new daily presence in Tokyo. We are here to match supply and demand locally and at the same time offer Monjasa’s own maritime logistics in key shipping hubs such as the Panama Canal and the Middle East. Altogether, we are confident that entering the Japanese market with genuine respect and industry-leading governance, we are strengthening our service offerings, not only in Asia, but as a global shipping partner.”
Diverse Fuel Offerings for the Japanese Market
Monjasa will provide a wide range of fuel products, including Very Low Sulphur Fuel Oil (VLSFO), Marine Gas Oil (MGO), and High Sulphur Fuel Oil (HSFO). Additionally, the company is focusing on alternative fuels such as biofuels and LNG to support the transition towards greener shipping solutions.
Appointment of Jun Inoue as Senior Trader to Drive Market Expansion
To reinforce its market entry, Monjasa has appointed Jun Inoue as Senior Trader. With over 20 years of experience in the Japanese shipping sector, Inoue brings valuable expertise to Monjasa’s operations in Tokyo. Having previously worked at shipping giant “K” Line and energy company BP, he is well-positioned to foster strong relationships and drive Monjasa’s marine fuel solutions in Japan.
“With more than two decades of industry experience working with the Japanese shipping markets, I am eager to introduce Monjasa’s worldwide fuel solutions from Tokyo. In this market, personal relationships, loyalty, and local expertise are crucial for successful trading, and this is what we aim to bring,” said Inoue.
Further strengthening the team, Jonas Andersen, currently based in Monjasa’s Singapore office, will be relocating to Tokyo to support the company’s operations in Japan.
Strategic Growth and Commitment to Japan
Located in the business district near Tokyo Station, Monjasa’s new office is set to enhance its operational efficiencies and customer engagement in the region. This expansion is in line with the company’s long-term vision of establishing a robust presence in key global shipping hubs.
By entering the Japanese market with a commitment to quality service and innovative fuel solutions, Monjasa is poised to play a significant role in the country’s maritime industry while reinforcing its position as a trusted global bunker supplier.
