The Role: Marine Fuel Trading Intern – Singapore
KPI OceanConnect is looking for an analytical and proactive intern to directly support its specialized China Trading desk based in Singapore. This on-site, full-time position is tailored for an individual who thrives in a fast-paced environment and is eager to decode the fundamental drivers of global oil markets.
Working on the front lines of trade execution, the intern will act as a core support pillar for both commercial trading and operations teams. Under the guidance of senior mentors, the successful candidate will assist with daily market analysis, help formulate regional pricing quotes, and actively track vessel shipping patterns to support critical commercial decision-making across Chinese and broader Asian marine markets.
Key Responsibilities
- Market Analysis & Research: Support the China Trading team with daily market intelligence gathering, pricing updates, and trade-related research focused heavily on Far East shipping flows.
- Operational Trade Support: Assist the Operations team with the logistical execution of bunker deliveries, managing post-trade documentation, and coordinating seamlessly with fuel suppliers.
- Data & System Management: Maintain and update internal trading databases, compile commercial reports, and manage data entry within the company’s core trading systems.
- Commercial Documentation: Assist in preparing precise price quotations, contract briefs, and trading data summaries for internal and external stakeholders.
- Stakeholder Communication: Maintain professional communications with customers and fuel suppliers under the direct supervision and guidance of experienced traders.
- Continuous Improvement: Participate actively in daily team discussions, contribute fresh market insights, and support ad hoc commercial projects.
Candidate Profile
- Education: Final-year undergraduate student or recent graduate holding a degree in Business, Economics, Maritime Studies, Engineering, Finance, or a closely related discipline.
- Language Requirements: Excellent proficiency in both English and Mandarin (spoken and written) is essential. The role involves daily, regular commercial communication with Chinese-speaking customers, regional suppliers, and East Asian market participants.
