Bunker Optimization Manager – Role Overview:

The Bunker Optimization Manager will be responsible for understanding the entire bunker process flow, including planning, procurement, and fuel consumption management. This includes evaluating optimal intake options for the company’s approximately 3,500 annual bunker deliveries. The role requires a thorough understanding of fuel consumption per vessel, taking into account engine types, geographical areas, and emission zones, and the management of fuel changeovers between different sulfur emission areas.

A significant part of the role will involve collaborating with various departments, stakeholders, and external partners to ensure continuous improvement in bunker operations. The individual will also work closely with data engineers and analysts to turn data into actionable insights that will support the optimization of bunker procurement and consumption strategies.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Bunker Process Flow Management: Oversee the planning and execution of bunker operations for various fuel types, ensuring a streamlined flow from procurement to bunkering.
  • Optimization of Bunker Consumption: Verify the ideal bunker consumption for each vessel based on specific factors like engine type and geographical areas.
  • Fuel Change-Over Management: Efficiently manage the fuel changeover process, particularly between areas with different sulfur emission regulations.
  • Collaboration: Work alongside like-minded departments to maximize the technical capabilities of the company’s bunker operations.
  • Metrics and KPIs: Partner with stakeholders to define and track important metrics and key performance indicators (KPIs) that align with Hapag-Lloyd’s business goals.
  • Data Analysis: Collaborate with data engineers and analysts to transform data into meaningful insights for continuous optimization.
  • IT Solutions Development: Support the development and improvement of dedicated IT solutions related to bunker management.

Qualifications:

  • A university degree in Business Administration, Logistics, Business Informatics, or a related field.
  • A minimum of five years of experience in bunker procurement functions or similar roles within the maritime or logistics sectors.
  • Strong analytical skills with a deep understanding of data analytics to drive performance improvements.
  • Effective communication skills, with professional-level proficiency in oral and written English.
  • Ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams and manage multiple stakeholders to achieve business objectives.
