GoodFuels – In a significant move towards decarbonizing the cruise industry, Norwegian Cruise Line’s Norwegian Dawn, docked at the IJmuiden Cruise Terminal in the Netherlands, received a GoodFuels sustainable B30 biofuel blend. The biofuel was supplied by FincoEnergies in partnership with KPI OceanConnect, marking a key milestone in the cruise line’s journey to reduce its environmental impact. This collaboration underscores the industry’s growing commitment to sustainable fuels, contributing to cleaner cruising and a smaller environmental footprint for global shipping.
Aligned with Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings‘s ambitious ‘Sail and Sustain’ program, which aims to use renewable fuels across 40% of its fleet, the B30 biofuel blend contains 30% biofuel and 70% traditional marine diesel. Made exclusively from 100% waste and residue feedstocks, it does not compete with food resources. This solution has the potential to reduce CO₂ emissions by 80-90% compared to conventional marine diesel—without requiring engine modifications.
In addition to reducing carbon emissions, the biofuel blend helps improve air quality by lowering emissions of sulfur oxides (SOx), particulate matter (PM), and black carbon, benefiting communities along the cruise routes.
“We’re excited to support Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings in their move toward cleaner cruising. By choosing sustainable biofuels, they’re driving down emissions and setting a strong example for the cruise industry,” said Mayu Kubo, Commercial Manager of Marine Biofuels at FincoEnergies.
GoodFuels’ involvement in this delivery highlights its commitment to providing practical, affordable decarbonization solutions. The partnership with KPI OceanConnect reflects a shared vision of advancing sustainable biofuels as a key solution for reducing emissions in marine travel.
As the cruise industry increasingly turns to sustainable fuels, GoodFuels remains dedicated to supporting operators in their transition to cleaner alternatives. Each biofuel delivery represents a step toward a sustainable maritime future, ensuring cleaner cruising and healthier marine environments.
Sustainable biofuels like this offer an immediate decarbonization solution for global shipping, as they can be used in existing marine engines without modification.
