Golden Island B100 Biofuel Bunkering Singapore

Singapore | December 4, 2025 – Singapore’s transition toward sustainable marine fuels has taken a decisive leap forward as Golden Island Pte Ltd successfully completed its first and second deliveries of B100 biofuel to Maersk in October and November. The operations represent one of the early large-volume, fully waste-based UCOME (Used Cooking Oil Methyl Ester) bunker deliveries carried out in Singapore, reinforcing the growing commercialisation of low-carbon marine fuels in Asia.

Golden Island deployed the GOLDEN SIRIUS, an IMO Type II chemical tanker owned and operated by the company, to deliver 900 metric tons and 2,900 metric tons of 100% UCOME B100 biofuel to the ESTELLE MAERSK and MAERSK AMAZON, respectively. These deliveries form a critical component of Maersk’s accelerating decarbonisation efforts and highlight Golden Island’s emerging role as a provider of next-generation bunker fuels.

Strategic Collaboration Accelerates Practical Emission Reduction

The back-to-back B100 Bunkering operations underscore the value of close cooperation between ship operators and bunker suppliers as the maritime sector seeks immediate, scalable solutions to reduce emissions. Golden Island emphasised that deep collaboration with Maersk was instrumental in enabling these pioneering deliveries.

For Maersk, the uptake of waste-based biofuels remains an important pillar in providing immediate emission reductions while the company continues to expand its portfolio of alternative fuel solutions.

B100 UCOME: A Fully Waste-Based, Drop-In Low-Carbon Marine Fuel

The biofuel supplied by Golden Island, 100% UCOME B100, is derived entirely from used cooking oil, offering substantial lifecycle greenhouse gas reductions without requiring modifications to existing vessel engines.

As a drop-in marine fuel, B100 enables operators like Maersk to reduce emissions now, complementing longer-term transitions to methanol, bio-methanol, ammonia, and other emerging fuels.

The operations also highlight Golden Island’s readiness to supply certified, sustainable biofuels at scale, supported by the company’s growing technical and operational capabilities.

Singapore’s Multi-Fuel Ambition Gains Momentum

The successful deliveries reinforce Singapore’s strategic ambition to establish itself as a multi-fuel bunkering hub, capable of providing a full spectrum of low-carbon alternatives including biofuels, methanol, and future fuels.

Golden Island emphasized that these back-to-back B100 operations are part of a broader roadmap to expand biofuel availability and strengthen Singapore’s position as a global leader in cleaner bunkering solutions.

Golden Island Shared “With these successful collaborations, Golden Island will continue to strengthen its capabilities to provide low-carbon solutions to global clients and support Singapore’s ambitions to create a multi-fuel bunkering hub.”

Expanding Capabilities for a Low-Carbon Future

The milestone follows Golden Island’s continued investment in alternative fuel-ready assets and its strategy to support customers’ decarbonisation commitments. As more global operators increase demand for waste-based and advanced biofuels, Golden Island’s ability to handle, certify, and deliver products such as B100 will be central to Singapore’s next phase of energy transition.

The company plans to further build its supply chain resilience, certification capacity, and operational readiness to meet the rising demand for sustainable fuels in Asia’s largest marine energy market.

Golden Island: A Legacy of Market-Leading Adoption

Founded in 1982, Golden Island has a history of pioneering fuel transitions in the world’s largest bunkering port. The company was the first supplier in Singapore to offer Low Sulphur Fuel Oil (LSFO 0.5%) in 2019 ahead of the IMO 2020 deadline. Now, with its ISCC EU Certification, the firm is setting the pace for the low-carbon transition, ensuring the safe, compliant, and scalable supply of methanol alongside conventional and biofuel products.
