Stavanger, Norway | July 1, 2026 – In a major contract securing the energy logistics of Norway’s coastal transportation network, Nordic energy expert Gasum has signed a long-term agreement with premier ferry operator Fjord1 to supply liquefied natural gas (LNG) to its fleet operating on the strategic Arsvågen–Mortavika maritime route.
The multi-vessel supply contract encompasses four primary, high-frequency passenger ferries and one dedicated backup vessel. The route represents a vital artery along the E39 highway network, linking the industrial and coastal hubs of Stavanger and Haugesund.
Precision Logistics for Critical Infrastructure
As Norway’s leading ferry operator, Fjord1 transports more than 20 million passengers annually. Because the Arsvågen–Mortavika connection functions as a critical infrastructure link on the Norwegian west coast, the bunkering schedule demands absolute operational precision to prevent mainland traffic backlogs.
- Bunkering Method: Gasum will perform regular truck-to-ship (TTS) bunkering maneuvers at both terminal ends of the route.
- Logistical Synch: Deliveries require tight scheduling windows interwoven directly with the ferries’ daily arrival and departure timetables to maintain continuous, predictable transit loops.
- Supply Resilience: Gasum will mobilize its integrated Nordic supply chain, leveraging its extensive regional network of land terminals, specialized bunkering vessels, and high-capacity LNG transport trucks, to ensure uninterrupted fuel availability.

The company’s supply architecture gives Fjord1 a modular pathway to integrate bio-LNG (liquefied biomethane) into its fuel mix. Because bio-LNG functions as a direct drop-in replacement fuel, it can be introduced either as a partial physical blend or as a full 100% replacement without requiring modifications to the ferries’ existing cryogenic tanks or lean-burn internal combustion engines. This flexibility provides Fjord1 with a built-in mechanism to steadily drive down its Scope 1 emissions profile in alignment with Norway’s aggressive maritime net-zero targets.
