Dubbed the AYK Cosmos Marine Battery Container, this breakthrough technology is engineered to tear down the cost, design, and engineering barriers that have traditionally complicated shipboard electrification.
Even prior to its official debut, AYK confirmed it is already securing commercial orders for the Cosmos system. The technology has successfully completed the rigorous New Technology Qualification (TQ) stage, a vital framework proving sufficient technical maturity, while moving rapidly through full class approval.
Eliminating the Dedicated Battery Room Dilemma
Traditional marine battery installations often demand intricate engineering and high capital expenditures, particularly regarding specialized, dedicated battery rooms. According to Chris Kruger, founder of AYK Energy, the Cosmos container completely redefines how energy storage can be deployed and managed onboard vessels.

The design of the Cosmos container introduces plug-and-play adaptability to commercial fleets, unlocking new operational use cases:
- Shore-Side Charging & Swapping: Containers can be stacked onshore, charged off-site with green energy, and rapidly loaded onto vessels at port.
- Voyage Tailoring: Operators can scale energy capacity dynamically, loading dozens of containers at a time, to easily fulfill short-sea fully electric transit requirements in the EU and navigate tightening emissions regulations like EU ETS.
- In-Port Hotel Power: The units can be utilized to supply temporary, zero-emission hotel-load power while ships are berthed, sharply lowering port-side emissions and noise pollution.
- Permanent or Hybrid Setup: While ideal for quick-swap logistics, the system can also be permanently installed for dedicated hybrid or fully electric vessels.
Eight Independent Levels of Safety
Designed as one of the most advanced energy storage systems ever engineered for maritime applications, the Cosmos container prioritizes redundancy and asset safety. It integrates eight independent levels of safety, featuring IP67 protection and an A60 fire rating.
While primarily targeting the high-frequency ferry, RoPax, and passenger vessel segments, the system is fully adaptable to tugboats, feeder vessels, hybrid commercial craft, and general workboats.
