Stena Oil has officially commenced operations at its recently inaugurated fuel terminal in Frederikshavn. The takeover agreement, signed by Stena Terminals A/S, a wholly owned subsidiary of Stena Oil, and the Port of Frederikshavn towards the end of last week, marks the successful transition of ownership to Stena Oil.
“We have a good collaboration with the Port of Frederikshavn, and we have maintained an ongoing dialogue throughout the entire process. Our focus has consistently been to kickstart our operations in Frederikshavn, and we are pleased that we have now achieved that goal,” says Jonas Persson, MD of Stena Oil.
The newly operational terminal, boasting a capacity of 75,000 cubic meters, provides Stena Oil with a more efficient infrastructure, complementing its existing operations in Gothenburg. As part of this expansion, a state-of-the-art bunkering vessel, capable of handling various fuels, including biofuels and methanol, is set to be deployed in the first quarter of this year. Stena Line, with ferry routes in Denmark and Kattegat, is among the key customers to be served from Frederikshavn.
Jonas Persson highlighted the environmental benefits of the new terminal’s geographical location, stating, “The geographical location brings us closer to our customers, allowing us to offer an even more efficient delivery with environmental benefits and solutions for future fuels.”
Stena Oil, a part of the Stena Metall Group, contributed to the group’s reported turnover of SEK 44 billion during the 2022/2023 fiscal year.
Mikkel Seedorff Sørensen, CEO of the Port of Frederikshavn, expressed his pleasure at the major milestone achieved with the startup of Stena Oil’s activities, welcoming the company to Frederikshavn. The terminal, strategically situated on the new port areas with a water depth of 14 meters, is the result of collaboration with Stena Oil and is expected to bring increased activity to the Port of Frederikshavn.
“It is a result of a close collaboration with Stena Oil that we are now able to hand over the bunker terminal after a construction period marked by challenges, and we look forward to the increasing level of activity, which the bunker operations will bring to Port of Frederikshavn,” said Mikkel Seedorff Sørensen.
