Monjasa, a global top 10 marine fuels supplier, has announced an expansion into new offshore operations in the US Gulf, building on five successful years of maritime activity in the Port of Houston. This strategic move will enhance Monjasa’s capabilities and offerings in one of the world’s busiest marine fuel markets.

New Charter Agreement and Operational Overview

As part of its new operations, Monjasa has finalized charter terms for the tanker MT Stenheim (16,626 deadweight tonnage), which is effective immediately. Monjasa has established itself as a key shipping partner in the Greater Houston Area, operating three barges and currently delivering between 35,000 and 40,000 metric tonnes of marine fuels each month.

Adapting to Market Needs

The Port of Houston has grown in significance as a trade gateway for Texas and the entire United States, bolstered by recent infrastructure developments that accommodate larger vessels and increased cargo volumes. Monjasa’s offshore US Gulf operation is designed to cater specifically to larger vessel segments, including oil, chemical, and gas tankers, which may not have direct access to bunkering locations in the Houston Ship Channel.

This expansion is not only about increased accessibility for shipowners but also emphasizes the importance of product quality. Monjasa sources its fuel exclusively from vetted major suppliers, ensuring high standards are maintained across the US Gulf region.

Commitment to Quality and Flexibility

Trading Manager Americas, Anastasios Manalis, highlighted the company’s commitment to leveraging local knowledge and strong supplier relationships to enhance operational flexibility. “Besides getting the logistics right, we are well aware that marine fuel quality continues to be an important parameter in the US Gulf area,” said Manalis. “By seizing ownership across sourcing, shipping, and supply, we will match the increasing demand for multiple product testing and bring the highest possible fuel quality standard to the offshore US Gulf too.”

Key Supply Locations – Monjasa anticipates that key supply locations for its offshore operations will include:

  • Galveston Offshore Lightering Area (GOLA)
  • Southwest Pass (SWP)
  • South Sabine Pass
  • Offshore Corpus Christi

The new operation will begin supplying Very Low Sulphur Fuel Oil (VLSFO) and Marine Gas Oil (MGO) from the MT Stenheim tanker, further enhancing the range of services offered in the region.

Details of MT Stenheim – The MT Stenheim is a SIRE vetted vessel equipped with an experienced crew specialized in handling ship-to-ship bunkering operations in the US Gulf environment. Here are some key specifications of the vessel:

  • IMO: 92611114
