Today marks the inauguration of MAN Energy Solutions cutting-edge new facility in Singapore, signaling a significant expansion of their local business operations. Renowned as a global leader in alternative-fuel engines, MAN Energy Solutions is at the forefront of driving the maritime energy transition towards cleaner fuels worldwide.
Situated in Tuas, the new facility represents a substantial investment of 20 million EUR (S$30 million). It encompasses various essential components, including the state-of-the-art MAN PrimeServ training academy, a logistics center serving as Asia’s primary warehouse, and a PrimeServ workshop providing comprehensive maintenance and repair services. Notably, these services cater to MAN Energy Solutions alternative-fuel engines, underscoring their commitment to sustainability and innovation.
This expansive facility is poised to become MAN Energy Solutions largest service hub outside Europe. It will offer shipowners and ship managers unparalleled access to technical support round-the-clock, streamlining processes such as repairs, maintenance, and spare parts procurement. Moreover, the facility will provide vital training for seafarers, ensuring the safe operation and upkeep of all MAN Energy Solutions equipment.
The timing of this development couldn’t be more opportune, aligning with the growing demand for repairs, maintenance, and training services related to alternative-fuel engines. Notably, MAN Energy Solutions is pioneering the development of two-stroke methanol dual-fuel engines, with two-stroke ammonia dual-fuel engines currently in the pipeline.
The inauguration ceremony was graced by Dr. Amy Khor, Senior Minister of State for the Ministry of Transport and Ministry of Sustainability and the Environment. Dr. Khor praised MAN Energy Solutions for its longstanding partnership with Maritime Singapore and commended their commitment to decarbonization, digitalization, and talent development.
Dr. Uwe Lauber, CEO MAN Energy Solutions, said, “With over 9,000 square metres of floor space, Singapore is our largest hub outside of Europe in what is one of the most important maritime centres globally. We intend for this mixed-purpose facility to advance the maritime energy transition locally through education, logistics, and a comprehensive after-sales portfolio. Ultimately, we are ‘moving big things to zero’ and leading our customers towards a multi-fuel, decarbonised future.”
Mr. Teo Eng Dih, Chief Executive Officer of the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore, said, “As the world’s largest bunkering port and major transhipment hub, Singapore is committed to the maritime digitalisation and the green transition. We have been long-time partners with MAN Energy Solutions and have been working closely together in various methanol and ammonia shipping consortiums and also in skills development. MAN Energy Solutions’ new maintenance and training facility here will add deep expertise and experience to the growing and vibrant new fuels ecosystem here and also upskilling of our maritime workforce, especially in the area of new methanol and ammonia engines.”
Nicolas Brabeck, Managing Director of MAN Energy Solutions, Singapore, hailed the new facility as a significant investment in green technologies and emphasized the importance of equipping personnel with the necessary skillsets. He announced plans to increase on-site staff numbers to 400 by 2027, reflecting the company’s commitment to growth and innovation.
