In a significant milestone for both environmental sustainability and maritime industry advancement, Port of Tanjung Pelepas Sdn Bhd (PTP) has successfully completed its inaugural liquefied natural gas (LNG) bunkering operation. This operation, a collaborative effort between PTP, Petronas Trading Corp Sdn Bhd (Petco), and French shipping giant CMA CGM, marks a pivotal moment in the port’s commitment to cleaner and more efficient maritime practices.
The operation, which involved the vessel CMA CGM Monaco, a 14,024 TEUs container ship, signifies PTP’s dedication to enhancing its competitive edge in the global market.
Tan Sri Che Khalib Mohamad Noh, Chairman of PTP, emphasized the port’s unwavering commitment to sustainability and environmental leadership, citing the successful LNG bunkering operation as evidence of PTP’s capabilities in fostering clean and efficient maritime operations.
Echoing this sentiment, PTP CEO Mark Hardiman highlighted the port’s stature as Malaysia’s largest transshipment hub terminal. Hardiman emphasized the meticulous preparation undertaken in collaboration with Petco, CMA CGM, and government agencies since March 2022. Rigorous safety procedures, including table-top exercises and workshops, were instrumental in ensuring the seamless execution of the LNG bunkering operation.
The successful completion of this milestone paves the way for further growth in LNG bunkering at PTP, offering a significant contribution to the decarbonization of the maritime industry. With a capacity to handle 13 million TEUs annually, PTP remains committed to delivering reliable, efficient, and advanced services to major shipping lines and box operators. Currently ranked 15th among the world’s top container ports, PTP continues to strive for excellence while championing sustainable maritime practices on a global scale.
