Rotterdam | March 10, 2026 – Dutch short-sea specialist Vertom Group has announced it will install the latest generation of Alfa Laval’s OceanGlide air lubrication system on the Vertom Joy. The move marks a significant step for the shipowner, which operates a fleet of over 100 vessels, as it aggressively pursues energy-saving technologies to hedge against rising fuel costs and tightening emissions regulations.
The installation, scheduled for Q3 2026, will feature a newly refined version of the OceanGlide system designed specifically for easier integration into existing vessel hulls.
Fluidic Technology: Drag Reduction Without Moving Parts
OceanGlide distinguishes itself from traditional air lubrication systems through its use of fluidic technology. Unlike systems that require complex sea chests or large-scale hull modifications, OceanGlide utilizes a series of air distribution bands with precisely shaped channels.
