Rotterdam-based physical supplier Verde Marine Energy has successfully executed its first physical bunkering of 100% Advanced FAME (B100) biofuel in the ARA market, delivering up to a 90% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions to the Vertom-owned vessel Beautriton. Capitalizing on its newly renewed ISCC EU RED III certification, the company is now fully prepared to scale commercial supply of EN14214- and ISO-compliant B100 via both barge and truck across the region.
Rotterdam, Netherlands | June 23, 2026 – Fresh off the heels of renewing its ISCC EU certification to meet strict RED III mandates, Rotterdam-based physical supplier and trading firm Verde Marine Energy BV (VME) has officially transitioned from regulatory preparation to physical execution. The company successfully completed its first physical bunkering of 100% Advanced Fatty Acid Methyl Ester (B100 FAME) biofuel in the Amsterdam-Rotterdam-Antwerp (ARA) market, offering shipowners a verified pathway capable of delivering up to a 90% reduction in greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions.
The inaugural delivery was supplied to the Beautriton, a vessel owned by VME’s parent company, the Vertom Group, and operated and managed by Vertraco and ECL. By utilizing an internal fleet asset for this milestone bunkering, the operation underscores the Vertom Group’s broader internal decarbonization roadmap while validating VME’s low-risk commercial pathway for compliance under the EU Emissions Trading System (EU ETS), FuelEU Maritime, and RED III frameworks.
Strategic Supply Chain & Logistics Backbone
To execute the physical delivery, Verde Marine Energy engineered a robust logistics and procurement framework with prominent regional biofuel producers. VME partnered with Sunoil Biodiesel (Sunoil Bio Fuels B.V.) and IJsselland Bio Fuels B.V. to source and load the high-grade B100 product at the Standic terminal in Dordrecht.
Following the successful operation, VME confirmed that it is fully positioned to scale these operations immediately. The firm is now structurally ready to supply both EN14214- and ISO-compliant B100 via its dedicated barge fleet and road tanker (truck) networks across the entire ARA market. Critically for compliance-wary operators, each delivery is backed by full ISCC EU mass-balance certification and transparent sustainability documentation.
From Preparation to Commercial Execution
The milestone represents a critical maturation point for the physical supplier, which has rapidly expanded its product portfolio from marine distillates and VLSFO over the past year into high-blend renewables.
Joe Tierney, Director and Head of Trading at Verde Marine Energy, highlighted the operational significance of the delivery:
“This first physical biofuel supply is a key step for Verde Marine Energy. By supplying B100 ourselves, we strengthen our role as a physical marine fuel supplier and create a practical route for shipowners to access sustainable bunker fuels.”
From a regulatory standpoint, the move demonstrates that VME’s administrative systems, including its dual “Trader with Storage” and “Proof of Compliance” ISCC designations, are fully functional under actual bunkering conditions.
Christian Sterken, Sustainability Specialist at VME, added:
“From a RED III compliance perspective, this shifts VME from preparation to execution. We are building the operational and compliance foundations for a long-term renewable fuel strategy.”
Commercial Accessibility in a Tightening Market
As European maritime regulations continuously penalize carbon-intensive conventional fuels, the availability of verified drop-in biofuel alternatives like B100 FAME has become a critical focal point for global fleets trading within EU waters. VME’s stated objective with the rollout is to eliminate the logistical and administrative friction often associated with bio-bunkering, making advanced biofuels practical, legally compliant, and commercially accessible to the wider market.
