Titan, a leading supplier of liquefied natural gas (LNG) and liquefied biomethane (LBM) to shipping customers, has successfully completed the first-ever LNG bunkering operation by ship at the port of Cuxhaven.
The operation was carried out by Titan Clean Fuels bunker vessel ‘Optimus,’ which swiftly, safely, and successfully delivered LNG to the dredger ‘Vox Ariane,’ operated by long-term client Van Oord. This ship-to-ship bunkering in Cuxhaven marks a pioneering step in the region’s LNG infrastructure development. Previously, LNG operations in the port had been conducted solely via truck, and currently, LNG bunkering is only permitted at one berth.
The development of LNG bunkering infrastructure in Cuxhaven is part of a broader trend across Germany, where more ports are adopting LNG operations to support the shipping industry’s transition to cleaner fuels. Enhanced LNG bunkering capabilities at Cuxhaven, managed by Niedersachsen Ports GmbH & Co. KG, also pave the way for future advancements in maritime decarbonisation, including the use of liquefied biomethane (LBM) and renewable e-methane.
