Titan Clean Fuels, part of the Molgas Group, has entered into a long-term agreement with Sogestran Group to build, charter, and operate a new 6,000 cbm LNG bunker vessel in the Western Mediterranean. Designed with a low-air-draft for direct cruise ship bunkering and fueled by LNG/LBM itself, the vessel will serve major ports like Fos-Marseille, Barcelona, and Genoa. This partnership strengthens regional infrastructure following the Mediterranean’s designation as a Sulphur Oxide Emission Control Area, meeting the rising demand for cleaner maritime fuels.
Amsterdam, The Netherlands | September 1, 2026 – Titan Clean Fuels (Titan), part of the Molgas Group, has finalized a long-term strategic agreement with shipowner Sogestran Group for the construction, long-term charter, and operation of a new 6,000 cubic meter (cbm) LNG bunker vessel (LNGBV). The landmark partnership marks a major step forward in scaling clean marine fuels across the Western Mediterranean.
Operational Footprint and Services in the Mediterranean
The newly commissioned LNGBV is slated to operate extensively throughout the Western Mediterranean, providing critical bunkering infrastructure where maritime environmental regulations are tightening.
- Loading and Bunkering Hubs: The vessel will be capable of loading liquefied natural gas (LNG) from a series of key terminals across the Mediterranean Sea. It will deliver LNG and Liquefied Bio-Methane (LBM) bunkering, alongside gas-up and cool-down services, to all types of LNG-fueled vessels calling at major regional ports, prominently including Fos-Marseille, Barcelona, and Genoa.
- Expanding Molgas Group’s Reach: This strategic deployment scales up the Molgas Group’s physical presence in the Mediterranean Sea, seamlessly integrating ship-to-ship LNG and LBM bunkering with the group’s already established truck-to-ship and broader onshore downstream LNG distribution capabilities.
- Fleet Integration: Once operational, the vessel will join the Molgas Group’s expanding global fleet of LNG bunker vessels, which currently stands at eight ships in service across Northern Europe (six operated by Titan and two trading for Molgas Norway). This expansion directly tracks surging maritime demand for LNG and LBM, as well as future-looking integration of e-methane.
Custom Design and Technical Innovation
Jointly developed and meticulously designed by the technical and engineering teams at Titan and Sogestran, the vessel is custom-tailored to handle the unique navigational, operational, and commercial profiles of Western Mediterranean ports, regional LNG reloading facilities, and the diverse mix of receiving vessels calling on the area.
- Low-Air-Draft Architecture: A standout feature of the design is its low-air-draft capability, which will notably enable the vessel to bunker cruise ships directly without requiring a separate pontoon.
- Self-Decarbonization: Emphasizing lifecycle sustainability, the bunker vessel itself will operate on LNG/LBM propulsion, directly contributing to the ongoing decarbonization of maritime transport operations.
- Shipyard Partnership: Construction of the specialized gas carrier has been awarded to CIMC SOE, a leading Chinese shipyard recognized globally for its expertise in building small and medium-sized gas carriers.

The timing of the partnership aligns with strict new regulatory frameworks governing regional shipping emissions. The Mediterranean Sea officially became a Sulphur Oxide (SOx) and Particulate Matter (PM) Emission Control Area (ECA) on May 1, 2025.
This regulatory shift has intensified regional demand for methane-pathway fuels like LNG and LBM. Compared to traditional oil-based marine fuels, these alternatives virtually eliminate SOx and PM emissions, ensure full compliance with ECA mandates, and drastically cut local air pollutants that impact human health.
