TFG Marine, a leading international marine fuel joint venture between Trafigura, Frontline, and Golden Ocean, has announced its plan to adopt ZeroNorth’s electronic bunker delivery note (eBDN) solution. The announcement was made by Kenneth Dam, Global Head of Bunkering at TFG Marine, during the International Trade and Fuel Market Trends panel discussion at SIBCON.
TFG Marine is set to implement ZeroNorth’s eBDN solution for its customers in Singapore by the end of the year. The integration of this technology will help the company enhance operational efficiency, eliminate manual errors, streamline workflows, and reduce costs. This move is also in line with the Maritime & Port Authority of Singapore’s (MPA) initiative to digitalise bunkering, which aims to create a more transparent and efficient fuel supply process.
The Benefits of Adopting ZeroNorth’s eBDN Technology
By adopting ZeroNorth’s eBDN solution, TFG Marine is positioned to take advantage of several operational benefits. The eBDN system will optimise bunker procurement, verify purchased fuel quantities, and significantly reduce delays in the bunker delivery process. This technology ensures smoother transactions, greater accuracy, and more reliable data quality.
Kenneth Dam, Global Head of Bunkering at TFG Marine, highlighted the importance of this advancement, stating, “We are excited to work with providers such as ZeroNorth to roll out eBDNs to our customers, not only in Singapore but across our global operations. This technology will help digitalise the bunker delivery process, reduce administrative burdens, enhance digital documentation, and contribute to a smarter, more connected bunkering sector. We are committed to advocating for the adoption of eBDNs as a global standard for bunker fuel delivery.”
Singapore’s Digital Bunkering Initiative
Singapore, one of the world’s largest and most influential bunkering hubs, launched its digital bunkering initiative in November 2023. This initiative, led by the MPA, aims to enhance collaboration between bunker buyers and suppliers, enable better emissions reporting, and achieve time and cost savings through the use of digital technology such as eBDNs.
ZeroNorth’s eBDN solution, already operational and serving many barges and customers in Singapore, was thoroughly tested and approved by the MPA after meeting the required standards for regulatory compliance, functionality, data accuracy, and security. The wider adoption of the eBDN solution is expected to reduce errors and delays across the entire bunkering value chain.
TFG Marine’s Role in Global Digitalisation
As one of the first companies to adopt ZeroNorth’s eBDN technology, TFG Marine is taking a proactive approach toward the digitalisation of the bunkering process. The company’s decision to integrate this technology not only in Singapore but also across its global operations demonstrates its leadership and commitment to advancing the industry’s shift toward digital solutions.
The implementation of eBDNs supports TFG Marine’s broader objective of driving efficiency, accuracy, and sustainability across its operations. As the MPA plans to make eBDNs mandatory, TFG Marine’s early adoption positions the company at the forefront of this digital transformation.
ZeroNorth’s Comment on TFG Marine’s Adoption of eBDN Technology: “We look forward to working with TFG Marine to support them in driving substantial improvements in efficiency, accuracy, compliance, and sustainability across their operations. The adoption of our electronic bunker delivery note (eBDN) solution is a key step in enabling digitalisation and optimising the bunker delivery process, and we are excited to see the positive impact this will have on their global bunkering activities.”
