Manta Marine Technologies (MMT) has been awarded an order to supply two FuelOpt™ systems for Sirius Shipping’s forthcoming Sirius Evolution 15K product/chemical tankers. These cutting-edge vessels will leverage FuelOpt™ technology to enhance fuel efficiency and support Just-in-Time Arrival (JIT) operations.

The Sirius Evolution 15K tankers, each with a deadweight tonnage of 15,000 dwt, are set to be chartered by Preem Shipping. These vessels will form the core of Preem’s advanced system designed for the sustainable marine transport of renewable raw materials and finished refined products.

In a bid to achieve optimal environmental performance, Preem Shipping is adopting a JIT approach to marine transportation. This method involves adjusting vessel speeds to ensure timely arrival at ports without the need to burn excess fuel to arrive early and wait. This approach aims to reduce unnecessary fuel consumption and emissions, aligning with Preem’s sustainability objectives.

Sirius Shipping has a longstanding relationship with MMT, frequently utilizing the Fleet Analytics™ tool. The latest order for FuelOpt™ further solidifies this partnership. The system is already installed on six vessels within the Sirius Shipping fleet, demonstrating its effectiveness and reliability.

The new order highlights the adaptability of FuelOpt™ in optimizing ship operations. By ensuring vessels maintain the target speed set by voyage instructions, FuelOpt™ helps prevent excessive fuel use caused by early arrivals and subsequent waiting periods. This not only reduces emissions but also advances the goal of environmentally-friendly marine operations.

FuelOpt™ is a fuel-agnostic solution, providing up to 10% fuel savings even if Sirius Shipping decides to convert its methanol-ready vessels to methanol fuel in the future.

Richard Bjercke, Chief Commercial Officer of MMT, commented “Sirius Shipping and MMT share a common goal of reducing shipping emissions, and we are thrilled they have chosen FuelOpt™ for these state-of-the-art new builds. The latest orders reflect the system’s strong reputation and operational benefits, following eight years of successful implementation.”

He added “Combining high-quality ships with FuelOpt™ and JIT is a winning formula for achieving industry-leading vessel efficiency. We remain committed to advancing our systems and collaborating with our customers to surpass regulatory standards and cut fuel costs.”

Jonas Backman, Managing Director of Sirius Shipping, stated “Our Pathway-to-Zero commitment is integral to our operations at Sirius Shipping. Focusing on operational efficiency to minimize emissions not only makes commercial sense but also aligns with our goal of reducing future green fuel requirements to achieve zero emissions.”

Backman continued “FuelOpt™ has proven to be a valuable asset across our fleet, and we are confident in its benefits for our upcoming Evolution 15K series.”

The two Sirius Evolution 15K product/chemical tankers are scheduled for delivery in the second half of 2026.
