Peninsula, is seeking an experienced Physical Desk Trader (Supply) to join a dynamic team in Dubai. This role involves engaging in the trading of marine fuel and associated products, fostering profitable and enduring relationships with counterparties while keeping a strong focus on credit risk and payment performance.
Physical Desk Trader (Supply) Responsibilities
- Engage in the purchase and sale of marine fuel and associated products, working towards profitable and longstanding partnerships with a portfolio of counterparties.
- Maintain a risk-aware approach, ensuring credit risk and payment performance are closely monitored and controlled.
- Collaborate with reselling supply teams to achieve P&L objectives in your supply markets.
- Generate competitive supply solutions by closely coordinating with Sales and Market Intelligence teams.
- Ensure full compliance with company policies, including Delegation of Authority (DOA), CRM protocols, transaction communication, bookkeeping, and claims handling.
Main Responsibilities:
- Supplier Relationship Building:
- Develop and nurture relationships with new and existing suppliers in the region, with the goal of increasing the strike rate and margins.
- Internal Collaboration:
- Actively manage inbound inquiries from regional offices within the Peninsula Group.
- Work closely with internal traders to facilitate the efficient exchange of market and customer intelligence across the company.
- Market Analysis & Negotiation:
- Stay up-to-date with market conditions, identify counterparty needs, provide pricing information, negotiate deals, and manage customer queries related to the sales process.
- Strategy Development:
- Collaborate with the Regional Head and Book Management teams to create and implement short- and long-term trading strategies.
- Ensure strategies are regularly updated and accurately maintained.
- Risk Management & Compliance:
- Ensure proactive risk management by vetting suppliers, minimizing claim costs, and regularly assessing the financial strength of counterparties with the Supplier Credit Team.
- Market Intelligence:
- Use MINT and local market data to identify leads for Sales teams, generating demand and expanding market opportunities.
- Marketing & Engagement:
- Participate in internal and external marketing activities to promote the company’s offerings and expand its market presence.
- Industry Awareness:
- Stay informed on developments in the shipping and oil sectors through regular reading of trade publications and relevant news.
Ideal Candidate Profile:
- Proven experience in trading, ideally within the bunker sector.
- Strong communication and organizational skills, with a keen ability to build and maintain relationships.
- Familiarity with market fundamentals and an ability to analyze local cargo index movements to identify competitive advantages.
- A proactive, risk-conscious individual with a clear focus on maintaining high standards in credit risk management and transaction compliance.
