Oil Marketing and Trading International (OMTI) has successfully completed the first-ever B30 marine biofuel bunkering at the Port of Fujairah.

Fujairah, UAE – 18 May 2025 — Oil Marketing and Trading International (OMTI) has successfully carried out the first-ever B30 marine biofuel bunkering operation at the Port of Fujairah, in what is being hailed as a key milestone for the maritime energy sector in the Middle East.

Landmark Bunkering Operation for Cleaner Marine Fuels

The operation involved the delivery of B30 marine biofuel — a blend of 30% renewable biofuel and 70% conventional marine fuel — to a commercial vessel at one of the world’s top bunkering ports. This is the first time that such a blend has been supplied at Fujairah, further positioning the UAE port as a progressive hub for low-carbon shipping solutions.

The move is seen as a strong signal of growing momentum toward decarbonization in the marine sector, especially in a region historically reliant on fossil-based marine fuels.

OMTI Demonstrates Operational and Logistical Readiness

By successfully executing this bunkering operation, OMTI has demonstrated its readiness to meet emerging market demands and environmental standards. The operation required coordination with port authorities, fuel suppliers, and quality assurance teams to ensure full compliance with safety and ISO fuel standards.

This marks an important development in the availability of alternative bunker fuels in the region, offering shipowners viable options for lowering carbon emissions in line with IMO 2020 and future IMO 2030/2050 targets.

Industry Reactions and Company Statement

Sherine Sherif, International Bunker Trading Manager at OMTI, commented following the operation:

“Proud to be the first to supply B30 bunker in Fujairah! A big step forward for cleaner fuels and more sustainable shipping. Well done to everyone involved!”

Her remarks reflect the growing enthusiasm within the industry to embrace cleaner alternatives as demand rises from both regulatory bodies and environmentally-conscious charterers.

Middle East Strengthens Position in Green Bunkering

With this operation, the Port of Fujairah joins a growing list of global ports offering biofuel bunkering, but it is the first to do so in the Middle East, where traditional marine fuel has long dominated the market. OMTI’s initiative adds strategic value to the region and supports its broader energy transition ambitions.

The availability of B30 in Fujairah is expected to encourage more shipowners to opt for blended biofuels, especially as carbon pricing and emissions reporting requirements continue to tighten globally.

Looking Ahead

OMTI has indicated plans to expand its sustainable fuel offerings across other major regional and international ports. The company continues to invest in logistics, storage, and sourcing capabilities to support scalable, cleaner bunkering options.

This development is being closely watched by industry stakeholders, with many viewing it as a potential blueprint for future biofuel operations in the region.
