Oiltanking Deutschland GmbH & Co. KG, the tank storage division of the Mabanaft Group, has signed an agreement to acquire BP Europa SE’s tank terminal in Kassel. This strategic acquisition strengthens Mabanaft’s position in Germany’s fuel storage and distribution network.
Key Features of the Kassel Terminal
The Kassel terminal boasts a storage capacity of approximately 8,500 cubic meters and is equipped with facilities for loading and unloading railcars and trucks. This infrastructure positions the terminal as a pivotal asset for meeting regional demand for liquid fuels, enhancing Mabanaft’s ability to serve its customers in the greater Kassel region.
Alignment with Mabanaft’s Strategy
The acquisition aligns with Mabanaft’s strategy to expand and repurpose its core assets to support the energy transition while continuing to serve conventional fuel markets. By leveraging its expanded storage capabilities, Mabanaft aims to provide a comprehensive range of energy products, including low-carbon fuel solutions, to meet evolving customer demands.
“This terminal adds another key location to our network, enabling us to expand our footprint in Germany further and provide high-quality liquid fuel products to our customers in the region, while maintaining the highest safety and environmental standards,” stated Reza Adami, Head of Storage at Mabanaft and Managing Director of Oiltanking Deutschland.
Expanding Oiltanking Deutschland’s Domestic Network
The acquisition will bring Oiltanking Deutschland’s portfolio to a total of twelve domestic locations. Currently, the company operates 11 terminals across Germany, offering a combined storage capacity of 2.375 million cubic meters. This expansion further solidifies its reputation as one of the largest independent operators of tank terminals for oils and biofuels in Germany.
Operational Continuity and Future Plans
Following the transaction’s completion, anticipated in the first half of 2025, TransTank GmbH—a joint venture between Oiltanking Deutschland and BP—will continue to operate the Kassel terminal. The acquisition is subject to fulfilling necessary conditions before closing.
