Ocean Opt: Schulte Group’s New Venture in Emissions Management

Schulte Group Launch Ocean Opt

The Schulte Group has bolstered its commitment to sustainability with the launch of Ocean Opt, a new member company dedicated to emissions management solutions for ship owners, managers and charterers.

Ocean Opt aims to serve as a comprehensive service provider, offering independent consultancy, data management, and platform-based services tailored to optimize fleet performance, manage emission trading systems, and ensure compliance with regulatory frameworks such as the upcoming FuelEU Maritime regulation.

The maritime industry faces increasing pressure to achieve climate neutrality, amplified by recent regulatory developments. The introduction of the International Maritime Organization’s (IMO) Carbon Intensity Indicator (CII) rating scheme and Energy Efficiency Existing Ship Index (EEXI) in 2023, coupled with the integration of shipping into the European Union’s emissions trading system (EU ETS), highlights a pivotal shift towards environmental accountability. This includes a mandate for ships calling the EU to submit monitoring plans to authorized verifiers by the end of August, ahead of the FuelEU Maritime regulation.

Ian Beveridge, CEO of the Schulte Group, highlighted the group’s proactive stance: “Efforts to decarbonize the shipping industry are intensifying. With over 300 vessels under contract for performance optimization and 200 vessels already under EU ETS subscription, the establishment of Ocean Opt aims to extend our services to a broader client base, including ship owners managing their operations in-house.”

Anil Jacob, Managing Director of Ocean Opt, emphasized their focus on empowering clients through expert emissions tracking, reduction strategies, and compliance facilitation: “Decarbonizing shipping is imperative, and Ocean Opt is equipped to navigate complexities with our bespoke performance analysis and emissions management platform, supported by MariApps Marine Solutions’ advanced software.”
