Uni-Tankers welcome Marex Nina

Uni-Tankers proudly announces the namegiving of its latest vessel, Marex Nina, named after its owner, Nina Østergaard Borris. This new addition to the fleet represents a significant milestone in the company’s ongoing fleet renewal efforts and reflects its commitment to sustainable maritime operations.

The journey of Marex Nina began four years ago, marking the beginning of a successful partnership between Uni-Tankers and Marex Maritime. The collaboration initially involved the chartering of Marex Noa, now renamed Jutlandia Swan, under a three-year agreement with a purchase option. This agreement laid the foundation for a close working relationship, which has since evolved into an enduring partnership.

As a result of this strong relationship, Uni-Tankers has placed orders for two additional vessels from Marex Maritime, with a third vessel expected to join the fleet in 2027. In a gesture that underscores the mutual trust and respect between the two companies, Marex Maritime has granted Uni-Tankers the honor of naming these vessels after its owners, Nina Østergaard Borris and Mia Østergaard Borris.

The Marex Nina is one of three vessels in the series, each boasting similar specifications: a 12,500 DWT capacity, 130 meters in length, and equipped with double hulls and stainless-steel tanks. These ships have undergone upgrades to enhance energy efficiency, aligning with Uni-Tankers’ commitment to sustainability and greener shipping practices.

As Marex Nina joins the Uni-Tankers fleet, it symbolizes the company’s continued focus on expanding and modernizing its operations while keeping sustainability at the forefront. The new vessel is set to play a pivotal role in Uni-Tankers’ global mission to provide safe, reliable, and environmentally responsible maritime services.

In a statement, Nina Østergaard Borris, Chief Executive Officer and Owner of USTC A/S, shared her personal reflections on the christening of the M/T Marex Nina

“The ceremony of christening and launching M/T Marex Nina in Japan was a deeply personal milestone for me. It was even more special because my daughter joined me, making it a significant moment for our family. Her growing interest in USTC, my work, and the legacy started by my father ‘Torben Østergaard-Nielsen’ more than 40 years ago, made this the perfect time for her to witness the traditions that have shaped our company. We were both honored to cut the rope at the inauguration, and soon, the 130-meter chemical tanker M/T Marex Nina will sail the seas.”

“Watching my daughter experience firsthand what she might one day be a part of, if she chooses, was truly inspiring. I used to accompany my father on many of his trips around the world, learning and absorbing his knowledge. Seeing my daughter step into this legacy fills me with pride, and I hope to inspire her to carry on these traditions while also encouraging her to navigate her own path.”

“Welcome to the Uni-Tankers fleet, M/T Marex Nina. May you have fair winds and calm seas!”

This new vessel marks a proud chapter in both the professional and personal journey of Nina Østergaard Borris, symbolizing the strength and vision of USTC as the company continues its global expansion and commitment to key markets.

The namegiving of M/T Marex Nina marks a key milestone in Uni-Tankers’ growth, showcasing its commitment to innovation, sustainability, and the ongoing legacy of the Østergaard family.
