Lemissoler Navigation has named its first two dual-fuel methanol 65,000-dwt bulk carriers, the MV Lem Azalea and MV Lem Plumeria. Built by CSSC Huangpu Wenchong and designed with SDARI and ABS guidance, these vessels feature advanced energy-saving technologies and operational flexibility. Both ships will charter to Cargill, marking a significant milestone in Lemissoler’s journey toward net-zero emissions by 2045.
Limassol | July 30, 2026 – Marking a major milestone in its fleet decarbonization strategy, Lemissoler Navigation Co. has celebrated the naming of the MV Lem Azalea and MV Lem Plumeria. The vessels represent the pioneering first installment of the company’s four-vessel dual-fuel methanol newbuilding program.
High-Specification 65,000-DWT Bulk Carriers
Designed from the ground up to balance immediate commercial competitiveness with long-term environmental regulatory compliance, the two 65,000-dwt bulk carriers embody a collaborative triumph across the international maritime supply chain.
- Design and Engineering: The vessel concept originated from Lemissoler’s operational experience and was translated into detailed engineering by the Shanghai Merchant Ship Design and Research Institute (SDARI). Classification expertise and rigorous technical guidance were provided by the American Bureau of Shipping (ABS).
- Construction: Built by CSSC Huangpu Wenchong Shipbuilding alongside China Shipbuilding Trading Co. (CSTC), the ships integrate dual-fuel methanol capability, advanced hull forms, optimized propulsion, energy-saving technologies, and modern environmental mitigation systems.
- Operational Flexibility: Capable of running on both conventional marine fuels and methanol, the ships offer vital flexibility as global supply chains scale up green fuel bunkering infrastructure.
Strategic Partnership and Commercial Deployment
The dual-fuel methanol bulkers are slated to enter commercial service under charter to Cargill, delivering efficient and lower-emission dry bulk transportation across global trade routes.
The milestone aligns directly with Lemissoler’s corporate roadmap to achieve net-zero emissions by 2045. Speaking on the collective effort required to bring the project to fruition, leadership acknowledged the contributions of builders, classification societies, financial institutions, and specialized internal technical teams.
