Eastern Pacific Shipping (EPS), a world-leading ship management company, and FueLNG Private Limited, Singapore’s premier LNG bunker supplier, have jointly achieved a significant milestone in sustainable shipping. On December 22, 2024, FueLNG’s bunker vessel, FueLNG Venosa, successfully completed the company’s 300th LNG ship-to-ship (STS) bunkering operation by delivering 1,628 cubic meters of LNG to EPS’s newest Pure Car and Truck Carrier (PCTC), Lake Shirasagi. This operation also marked EPS’s 300th global LNG bunkering milestone.
The bunkering, carried out at Singapore’s Raffles Reserve Anchorage, highlights the nation’s position as a global leader in LNG bunkering and sustainable maritime innovation. This achievement comes during a year marked by unprecedented growth in LNG-fueled vessels and record-setting LNG bunkering volumes in Singapore.
A Collaborative Milestone
Capt. Suraj Sundaresan, General Manager (Operations) at EPS, highlighted the importance of this milestone in advancing decarbonization “Reaching our 300th LNG bunkering milestone, alongside FueLNG’s 300th LNG STS bunkering in Singapore, is a testament to the progress we are making together towards sustainable shipping. This achievement highlights the collaboration and trust among key stakeholders, reinforcing our collective commitment to the industry’s decarbonization. We are proud to celebrate this shared milestone with FueLNG in a year of record-breaking progress.”
Saunak Rai, Head of FueLNG, expressed gratitude to stakeholders and esteemed clients who contributed to this achievement, stating “This milestone represents a significant achievement not only for FueLNG but also for Singapore’s growing prominence as a global hub for LNG bunkering. FueLNG’s 300th ship-to-ship LNG bunkering operation highlights our leadership in delivering safe, efficient, and reliable LNG solutions to the maritime industry.
Saunak Adds “As Singapore’s premier LNG bunker supplier, we are proud to play a pivotal role in advancing the adoption of LNG as a cleaner marine fuel. This achievement would not have been possible without the strong support of our stakeholders—Shell, Seatrium, and our valued customers—who have partnered with us in this journey.”
Additionally, we are deeply grateful to the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) and Singapore LNG Corporation (SLNG) for their unwavering support in enabling a robust LNG ecosystem. FueLNG remains committed to driving innovation, setting new standards in operational excellence, and supporting the maritime industry’s transition toward decarbonization.” Saunak Concludes.
EPS’s dedication to LNG as a cleaner marine fuel is evident in its operational achievements. Since its first LNG bunkering four years ago, the company has received over 1.6 million cubic meters of LNG. This progress underscores EPS’s commitment to supporting cleaner energy solutions and achieving net-zero emissions targets.
The use of LNG as a marine fuel offers significant environmental advantages, including reducing greenhouse gas emissions, sulfur oxides (SOx), and nitrogen oxides (NOx). These benefits are critical to meeting the International Maritime Organization’s (IMO) emission reduction targets for 2030 and 2050. EPS’s efforts to integrate LNG into its operations reflect the broader maritime industry’s transition to greener alternatives.
The Role of LNG in Decarbonizing Shipping
LNG bunkering is a key strategy in the maritime sector’s shift toward sustainable energy. By adopting LNG, companies like EPS contribute to reducing the industry’s carbon footprint while meeting stricter environmental regulations. This cleaner alternative to traditional heavy fuel oil supports global efforts to mitigate climate change.
The milestone achieved by EPS and FueLNG underscores the growing adoption of LNG as a mainstream marine fuel, inspiring other operators to prioritize sustainability alongside operational efficiency. As LNG infrastructure expands, its role in the maritime energy transition becomes increasingly pivotal.
This joint milestone by EPS and FueLNG showcases the potential of LNG in revolutionizing the shipping industry, reinforcing Singapore’s position as a global leader in sustainable maritime practices.
