CMA CGM has expanded its fleet with the delivery of the CMA CGM PANTHEON, a 24,000 TEU LNG-powered mega-vessel flagged in France. The ultra-large container ship is set to deploy immediately on the strategic FAL1 service connecting Asia and Northern Europe.
Marseille | July 23, 2026 – French shipping titan CMA CGM has officially welcomed its newest flagship vessel, the CMA CGM PANTHEON, into its active fleet under the French flag. As the group’s latest ultra-large container vessel (ULCV) powered by Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG), the milestone underscores the carrier’s aggressive timeline for fleet decarbonization and its operational focus on the high-capacity Asia-Europe trade corridor.
Engineering a Titan: The 24,000 TEU Class
Boasting a nominal capacity of 24,000 TEU (Twenty-foot Equivalent Units), the CMA CGM PANTHEON is a direct sistership to the CMA CGM NOTRE DAME. These vessels represent the pinnacle of modern mega-ship naval architecture, engineered to maximize cargo efficiency while drastically reducing emissions per container transported.
- Propulsion Technology: Equipped with dual-fuel engines capable of operating on LNG, the vessel significantly cuts sulfur oxide (SOx) and particulate matter emissions by up to 99%, and nitrogen oxide (NOx) emissions by up to 85% compared to conventional heavy fuel oil.
- Energy Transition Milestone: The deployment of the CMA CGM PANTHEON aligns with the group’s broader corporate trajectory to meet strict International Maritime Organization (IMO) carbon-intensity targets and accelerate the broader adoption of alternative marine fuels, including biomethane and synthetic e-methane.

In accordance with enduring maritime tradition, the vessel’s naming ceremony celebrated both operational readiness and cultural synergy. The ship was formally welcomed by her Master, Captain Benoit Le Dreau, alongside her godmother, Ms. Xiao Wang, Director of Programming & Screening at the Shanghai International Film Festival.
The choice of godmother highlights the deep commercial and cultural ties between European maritime operations and key Asian hubs, a vital nexus for the vessel’s upcoming commercial deployment.

The CMA CGM PANTHEON will not remain idle; the mega-vessel is slated to immediately enter service on CMA CGM’s premier FAL1 (French Asia Line 1) loop.
