CIMAC has been officially granted consultative status by the International Maritime Organization (IMO), following the approval of its application earlier this year. This milestone allows CIMAC to enhance its collaboration with IMO, leveraging its extensive expertise in large engines, power systems, drives, and propulsion technologies.
Rick Boom (Woodward), CIMAC President, stated “We are extremely happy that our application has been successful. We look forward to sharing CIMAC’s broad expertise in large engines, power, drives, and propulsion with IMO even more effectively. We are convinced that CIMAC’s work can contribute to achieving IMO’s goals.”
Eero Lehtovaara (ABB Marine and Ports), CIMAC VP Digitalization, added “There are still many opportunities to optimize the current state of shipping. Consider efficiency gains through digitalization, for instance. We aim to encourage the maritime industry to embrace and implement digitalization. We hope that closer cooperation can expedite its adoption.”
Peter Müller-Baum, CIMAC Secretary General, commented “Within IMO, CIMAC will focus on digitalization, non-shaftline propulsion, automation, and system integration. Our members possess significant expertise in these areas, and we eagerly anticipate our new responsibilities, striving to support the International Maritime Organization to the best of our abilities.”
