Arriva Shipping has announced a significant expansion of its fleet with a new dry cargo vessel to be constructed at Jiangsu SOHO Marine Heavy Industry Co., Ltd. in China. The vessel, designated as SH008, is expected to be delivered in the third quarter of 2026, reinforcing the company’s fleet renewal strategy and commitment to sustainability.

Fleet Expansion and Sustainability Focus

SH008 will join its sister vessels, MV Nor Viking (delivered in 2022) and SH007 (expected in December 2025), as part of Arriva Shipping’s modernization efforts.

Arriva Shipping CEO & Partner Sindre Matre highlighted the company’s sustainability-driven approach:

“This investment aligns with our goal of modernising the fleet and reducing our carbon footprint. SH008 builds on the success of Nor Viking and its hybrid technology, further enhancing our efficiency and sustainability.”

The 8,000 DWT vessel will feature a 2 MW battery hybrid system designed to reduce emissions, optimize fuel consumption, and comply with stringent environmental regulations. With increasing demand for energy-efficient logistics, SH008 will play a crucial role in ensuring that Arriva Shipping continues to offer environmentally responsible maritime transport solutions.

Regional Collaboration and Technological Innovation

Key components for SH008’s construction, including vessel design and the hybrid propulsion package, will be sourced from Norwegian and European partners. This strategic collaboration strengthens regional value chains while incorporating cutting-edge maritime technology to improve operational efficiency.

The order further cements Arriva Shipping’s reputation as a leader in sustainable short-sea shipping, leveraging hybrid technology to meet evolving regulatory requirements and customer expectations for greener shipping solutions.
