Ankora Fuels, an independent marine fuel supplier, proudly announces the launch of its new physical bunker supply operation in the Port of New York and New Jersey. Specializing in Low Sulfur Marine Gasoil (MGO) and Ultra Low Sulfur Marine Gasoil (ULSMGO), Ankora Fuels will offer both spot and contract options via barge and truck at all accessible berths and anchorages in New York Harbor.
“We are committed to providing buyers with a reliable, customer-focused, and cost-effective option for their clean bunker fuel needs in New York Harbor,” said John Barbarise III, Co-Founder and Head of Sales & Products Trading of Ankora Fuels. “Our agility and flexibility will set us apart. As a trusted and responsive partner, we will prioritize our customers’ needs and ensure swift and tailored solutions.”
Ankora has exclusively time-chartered a bunker barge in New York Harbor dedicated solely to MGO and ULSMGO service, with the ability to pump up to 300 MT per hour. This strategic asset enables the company to offer competitive pricing for MGO requirements of all sizes and effectively serve frequently changing vessel schedules, minimizing delays.
Ankora also intends to supply MGO and ULSMGO by truck at accessible berths in New York Harbor, Philadelphia, and other locations along the Delaware River, with an official announcement expected in Q3 2024. Ankora plans to strategically expand into other ports in the coming months.
Looking ahead, Ankora Fuels has expansion plans into additional East Coast ports, with announcements expected in the coming months. “Ankora Fuels has launched with strong financial backing and an incredible team. The company is set up for growth in numerous new ports,” said Zachary Freedman, Chairman of the Board.
Ankora Fuels is headquartered in Deal, NJ. John Barbarise III brings over 11 years of experience leading an East Coast bunker desk, with his recent focus on supply, risk management, and sales while overseeing all operations.
New York and New Jersey: A Strategic Opportunity for Ankora Fuels
The Port of New York and New Jersey is a critical bunkering hub, playing a pivotal role in the maritime industry due to its strategic location, extensive infrastructure, and high traffic volume. Handling over 6,000 vessel arrivals annually, it is one of the busiest ports on the East Coast, with its facilities processing over 7.8 million TEUs (twenty-foot equivalent units) of cargo in 2023. This bustling environment presents a prime opportunity for Ankora Fuels to establish itself as a leading marine fuel supplier.
The port’s significance as a bunkering hub is underscored by its substantial volume of bunker fuel transactions. Ankora’s launch of its new physical supply operation in this dynamic port allows it to tap into a robust demand for marine fuels, especially low-sulfur and ultra-low-sulfur marine gasoil. By leveraging the port’s extensive operations and high vessel traffic, Ankora can provide reliable and cost-effective fuel solutions to a wide range of vessels.
Ankora Fuels’ commitment to offering both spot and contract options via barge and truck at all accessible berths and anchorages in New York Harbor positions it to meet the needs of an ever-evolving maritime industry. The port’s status as a leader in offering cleaner shipping practices aligns perfectly with Ankora’s focus on low-sulfur marine fuels, supporting the industry’s shift towards more sustainable operations. This strategic move solidifies Ankora Fuels presence in a key node of the global bunkering network, paving the way for growth and expansion.
