Repsol has successfully completed its first-ever bunker delivery at Peru’s rapidly emerging Port of Chancay, supplying 740 metric tons of VLSFO via its oil tanker Thomas B to a container vessel. Strategically located north of Callao, the new maritime hub benefits from Repsol’s expanding operational footprint and round-the-clock capabilities. Backed by its high-capacity tanker fleet, Repsol continues to strengthen its presence in the region by offering a diverse portfolio of compliant marine fuels.
Madrid, Spain | September 1, 2026 – Repsol has successfully completed its inaugural marine fuel delivery at the Port of Chancay in Peru, marking a significant milestone in the energy company’s regional expansion. The landmark operation underscores Repsol’s strategic commitment to developing the Peruvian bunker market and supplying the international shipping industry with reliable, high-quality marine fuels across South America’s Pacific coast.
The Bunkering Operation
During this first-of-its-kind operation at the Chancay facility, Repsol safely transferred 740 metric tons of Very Low Sulphur Fuel Oil (VLSFO) to a visiting container vessel. The ship-to-ship supply was executed by Repsol’s dedicated oil tanker, the Thomas B. Boasting a substantial storage capacity of 20,000 metric tons (DWT), the Thomas B is engineered to efficiently service large-scale commercial vessels while maintaining the highest safety and environmental standards.
This successful delivery not only proves the operational readiness of Repsol’s logistics chain in the region but also signals the company’s ability to seamlessly support the demanding schedules of modern container shipping lines calling at newer infrastructure hubs.
Strategic Rise of the Port of Chancay
Strategically situated just 75 kilometers north of Callao, Peru’s traditional maritime center, the Port of Chancay is rapidly establishing itself as one of the most critical logistical nodes on the South American Pacific coast. Designed to accommodate deep-draft mega-vessels, the port is fundamentally shifting regional trade routes and creating lucrative new opportunities for the broader maritime and international trade sectors.
By initiating bunkering services at Chancay, Repsol is proactively positioning itself at the forefront of this emerging trade corridor, ensuring that state-of-the-art port facilities are matched by world-class refueling capabilities.
Expanding Fleet and Product Portfolio in Peru
Repsol’s successful deployment in Chancay leverages its robust, newly expanded maritime infrastructure in the region. The company currently operates two high-capacity bunker tankers anchored primarily in the neighboring Port of Callao:
- Thomas B: 20,000 DWT
- Adrian: 16,000 DWT
With these two vessels in active service, Repsol guarantees a flexible, 24/7 bunker delivery schedule to meet dynamic customer demands. Furthermore, the dual-vessel fleet allows Repsol to offer a strong and highly diversified marine fuel portfolio to the Peruvian market, fully compliant with global emissions regulations. The company’s current product offerings include:
- HSFO 3.5%S: High Sulfur Fuel Oil (for vessels equipped with exhaust gas cleaning systems/scrubbers)
- VLSFO 0.5%S: Very Low Sulfur Fuel Oil
- LSMGO 0.1%S: Low Sulfur Marine Gas Oil
Through the successful integration of the Thomas B and the Adrian, Repsol continues to reinforce its position as a leading energy partner in Latin America, ready to fuel the next generation of maritime trade through Peru’s expanding port network.
