Aqua superPower and Hyke have signed a Memorandum of Understanding to establish a blueprint for electrified urban ferry networks using underutilised city waterways. The partnership combines Hyke’s ultra-efficient electric passenger ferries with Aqua superPower’s marine fast-charging infrastructure to bridge the gap between vessel procurement, charging, and route planning. Together, they aim to provide public authorities and operators with an integrated framework that simplifies project delivery and accelerates zero-emission urban mobility.
Oslo, Norway | August 18, 2026 – In a strategic move to fast-track urban waterborne mobility, marine fast-charging leader Aqua superPower and innovative electric passenger ferry developer Hyke have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU).
The collaboration aims to establish a comprehensive blueprint for electrified urban ferry networks, transforming under-utilised city waterways into sustainable, high-efficiency transport corridors.
Bridging the Gap in Urban Water Transit
As municipalities worldwide grapple with escalating traffic congestion, strict carbon emission targets, and heavily constrained land-based infrastructure, urban waterways offer a largely untapped opportunity for mass transit. However, despite rapid advancements in clean vessel technology, many municipal green transit projects stall between the drawing board and execution.
Historically, vessel procurement, marine charging infrastructure, and route planning have been developed in silos. Aqua superPower and Hyke aim to dismantle this fragmented approach by integrating these critical elements from the earliest stages of project development.
The partnership delivers a unified framework designed to:
- Reduce project complexity and lower financial risk for municipalities and operators.
- Accelerate deployment of zero-emission passenger transport.
- Integrate ecosystems by ensuring vessels, charging networks, and operational schedules are engineered to work seamlessly together.
Technology Built for the Future of Cities
Hyke specializes in ultra-efficient electric passenger ferries, such as its flagship F-15 shuttle, which are purpose-built for urban, inland, and protected waterways. Engineered to bypass the need for expensive road or rail infrastructure expansions, Hyke vessels provide quiet, accessible, and clean transit options that consume a fraction of the energy of comparable traditional transport modes.
Complementing this, Aqua superPower brings world-class expertise in marine fast-charging infrastructure, ensuring that operators have access to robust, scalable energy networks capable of supporting high-frequency urban ferry schedules.
Leadership Perspectives
“Many cities already possess a valuable transport asset that remains significantly under-utilised their waterways,” said Niels Astrup, Business Development Manager, Nordics at Aqua superPower. “Electric ferries have the potential to provide clean, efficient and attractive passenger transport while reducing pressure on roads… Our collaboration with Hyke is about creating a blueprint that helps cities, operators and ports understand how to successfully deliver electrified ferry routes from concept through to operation.”
Charles Pembroke-Birss, VP Sales at Hyke, added “At Hyke, we believe customers need more than an ultra-efficient vessel. Successful ferry services depend on vessels, charging infrastructure and operational requirements working together from the outset. Aqua superPower brings world-class marine charging expertise to that process, giving cities and operators a clearer and more reliable path from an initial route concept to a fully operational zero-emission service.”
Scope of Collaboration
Under the terms of the MoU, Aqua superPower and Hyke will join forces across several operational fronts:
- Route Assessments & Feasibility Studies: Assisting cities in evaluating network viability.
- Pilot Projects & Demonstrations: Proving out concepts in real-world urban environments.
- Stakeholder Engagement: Supporting public authorities, port managers, and private operators in navigating the transition to electric waterborne transit.
By aligning vessel design and charging infrastructure early in the planning pipeline, the partners aim to provide a scalable, global framework that empowers cities to unlock the full potential of their waterfronts, delivering cleaner, quieter, and more sustainable urban mobility systems.
About Hyke
Hyke is a Norwegian maritime technology company redefining urban mobility with ultra-efficient, zero-emission electric ferries.
