The Role: Fuel Oil Trader – Houston
Chevron is looking for an analytical and entrepreneurial professional to manage its Fuel Oil trading book for the LATAM and international markets. Reporting through the PSAT group, the Fuel Oil Trader is fully accountable for both physical and financial trading activities, ensuring both outright trading profitability and strategic system optimization.
A primary focus of this position will be the origination and development of marine clientele, building market flow, and leveraging Chevron’s extensive infrastructure assets. The role requires a high degree of cross-commodity collaboration, working closely with global fuel oil commodity desks to identify inter-regional arbitrage flows and manage complex basis and price risk exposures.
Key Responsibilities
- Physical & Financial Trading: Execute spot and term trades in both physical and financial fuel oil commodities across LATAM and international markets to capture profit and optimize the enterprise system.
- Marine Client Origination: Focus heavily on the origination of marine clientele, building sustainable market flow, and structuring trading activities around those volumes.
- Strategy Formulation: Develop short- to long-term trading strategies, initiate and manage asset positions, and efficiently mitigate the price exposure of trading books.
- Global Arbitrage Development: Partner actively with Global Fuel Oil Commodity teams to bridge regional market plays with trading desks in Europe, the Middle East, and Asia.
- Asset Leverage: Utilize Chevron’s equity production, refining placement, and logistical infrastructure to leverage market opportunities and increase corporate earnings.
- Market Modeling: Collaborate with analysts to evaluate complex supply and trading scenarios, utilize risk management tools, and decode fundamental market indicators.

Candidate Profile
- Experience: Candidates must hold a Bachelor’s degree and possess a minimum of 5 years of commercial trading experience in fuel oil or closely associated refined products/crude oil, with a robust background handling both physical and financial instruments.
- Preferred Domain Expertise: Strong preference will be given to candidates who possess established fundamental knowledge of LATAM regional fuel oil flows, local marine infrastructure, and existing marine customer networks.
