Excelerate Energy, a US LNG company with a global presence, has successfully completed its 3,000th LNG ship-to-ship (STS) transfer operation, marking a significant milestone in its journey as a leader in the LNG industry. The operation took place on December 28, 2024, onboard Excelerate’s Floating Storage and Regasification Unit (FSRU), Excellence, which received a cargo delivery from Maran Gas Maritime Inc.’s LNG carrier, the Maran Gas Asclepius. This delivery occurred at the Moheshkhali Floating LNG (MLNG) terminal in Bangladesh, which has been a critical part of the country’s energy infrastructure.
“The 3,000th transfer represents Excelerate’s firm commitment to safety, reliability, and innovation since it began LNG ship-to-ship operations in 2007, This milestone is not just a number; it symbolizes years of relentless effort, continuous improvement, and the highest standards of operational excellence,” said David Liner, Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of Excelerate Energy.
He continued, “Since pioneering the commercial ship-to-ship transfer of LNG in 2007, we have safely and reliably brought energy to those who need it, and we are proud to have set a new standard for the industry.”
Excelerate Energy’s pioneering role in LNG ship-to-ship transfers has allowed the company to reshape the industry. The MLNG terminal, which began operations in 2018, continues to play a vital role in ensuring the energy security of Bangladesh. With the ability to process up to 600 million standard cubic feet of gas per day, the terminal provides a reliable source of energy to support industrial development, job creation, and sustainability in the region.
