ZeroNorth Veracity by DNV Emission Tool Launch

Leading maritime technology company, ZeroNorth and Veracity by DNV have announced the launch of a fully integrated, end-to-end emissions reporting and verification service. Teekay, a global leader in marine transportation, has become the first shipping company to adopt the new solution across its fleet.

This innovative partnership addresses one of the industry’s most pressing challenges: the need for accurate, verified, and streamlined emissions data reporting amid tightening global regulatory frameworks. The new service combines ZeroNorth’s robust Vessel Reporting and Emissions Analytics platform with Veracity by DNV’s trusted verification services via the Emissions Connect solution, offering maritime stakeholders a unified platform to handle regulatory compliance from data collection through to authority submission.

A One-Stop Compliance Solution

Shipping companies are increasingly under pressure to meet complex compliance requirements, such as the EU MRV (Monitoring, Reporting and Verification), IMO DCS (Data Collection System), the CII (Carbon Intensity Indicator) rating system, EU ETS (Emissions Trading System), and the upcoming FuelEU Maritime regulations. The traditional manual methods and siloed systems used for emissions reporting have not only resulted in inefficiencies but have also contributed to poor data quality and heightened compliance risks.

The new solution introduced by ZeroNorth and Veracity by DNV addresses these challenges head-on by automating reporting processes and incorporating multi-layered data validation mechanisms. A distinctive feature of this offering is its intelligent data quality feedback loop: verification flags raised by Veracity are automatically relayed to ZeroNorth’s data quality specialists, who then work directly with vessel crews to address any discrepancies prior to final submission.

This proactive collaboration ensures high-integrity data while reducing the administrative burden on operators, ultimately enhancing transparency and building confidence with regulators.

Teekay: First Mover and Strategic Partner

Teekay, a long-standing partner of ZeroNorth, played an instrumental role in the development and pilot testing of the integrated service. The company’s operational feedback helped shape the product to meet real-world demands and improve functionality. After a successful rollout across Teekay’s fleet, the service has already been extended to two additional customers, with broader adoption underway.

Commenting on the launch, Anders Schulze, Chief Operations Officer at ZeroNorth, stated “The maritime industry faces growing pressure to ensure emissions data is not just reported, but verified to the highest standards. Yet fragmented systems and manual processes continue to undermine data quality and increase compliance risk. By combining ZeroNorth’s data and analytics capabilities with Veracity by DNV’s verification expertise, we are directly addressing this challenge. Our goal is to build trust in emissions data and reduce complexity for shipowners and charterers. We’re especially pleased that Teekay, a long-time partner, played a central role in shaping and validating the service.

Mikkel Skou, Managing Director at Veracity by DNV, highlighted the value of strategic collaboration “At Veracity by DNV, the value of our ecosystem is built on strong partnerships, exemplified by our collaboration with ZeroNorth. By integrating trusted data and solutions like ZeroNorth’s Vessel Reporting and Emissions Analytics platform, we create a robust network that supports collaboration and drives sustainable growth in the maritime industry. We look forward to continuing to deliver trust and connectivity to the industry through this partnership with ZeroNorth.

Mikkel Seidelin, Chief Commercial Officer at Teekay, emphasized how the new solution supports their integrated operational model “Our commitment to excellence extends beyond innovation. With our fully integrated shipping model, we derive more value from unified and deeply connected teams where all of our information, day-to-day operations, and goals, are aligned. Partnering with ZeroNorth improves our ability to navigate complexities seamlessly, leveraging on data and technology to optimise our performance and reduce inefficiencies. When we are equipped with verified, end-to-end data, it empowers us as owners towards seamless decision-making, resulting in real sustainable and operational target-achievements.
