Strategic Bunkering in a Global Hub
The timing of the operation was surgically precise. The bunkering took place in Singapore following the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore’s (MPA) historic decision to award official methanol bunkering licenses effective January 1, 2026. This logistical feat was made possible through a collaboration with suppliers Mitsui & Co. Energy Ltd and Golden Island Pte Ltd, the latter being one of the first firms to receive the MPA’s new license.
The Brave Pioneer, an 82,000 DWT Kamsarmax bulker built by Tsuneishi Shipbuilding and owned by Mitsui & Co., is currently transiting from the Philippines to Western Australia before sailing onward to Europe.

The Brave Pioneer is an 82,000 DWT Kamsarmax bulker, a vessel type traditionally considered harder to decarbonize than container ships. Its dual-fuel capability allows for a seamless switch between conventional fuels and green methanol.
